any suggestions on a boost controller

Well i just had my car tuned and during my high boost run my AVC-R decided not to let boost go above 19psi. Even with duty cycle at 100% its only hitting 19psi. So does anyone have a suggestion on another controller..possably the blitz
SBC-ID or DBSC spec R?

Also if perhaps you arent planning on running more than 18psi i'd be happy to sell the avc-r for fairly cheap.

If you're into what works, keep it simple.

Could be your wastegate spring rate. I understand that any boost controller will have a hard time controlling boost above about 2 times the wastegate spring rate. Everything I have read about the AVC-R was positive.

armanielite 06-22-05 04:49 PM

well Im not sure if its the wastegate spring. I have the Greddy type R which is good for .8-1.2 kg/cm^2 whcih is like 11-16lbs i believe. so if im only running at most 20lbs it should not be the spring in the wastegate, but the AVC-R correct?

You could try a heavier spring before buying another boost controller. Also, check for boost leaks.

any suggestions on what spring rate?

Greddy makes a 1.4 bar spring that these guys sell. I'm sure that you can find others as well. Just suggesting to do this as a check of whether the spring in place could be the culprit. The problem with the stiffer wastegate spring is that you won't be able to set your boost limit below 1.4 bar.

I'll take the first dibs on the AVC-R if decide to sell it and go with the another boost controller. everything I've read about it is all good though.

I was looking at the boost pattern and when the boost is set to 19psi boost will spike to 18 then slowly drop down to 16 and hold there. But when boost is set @16 it holds perfectly at 16 without any dips or spikes. So im kinda thinking it could be the AVC-R. But a spring is much cheaper, by the way what is the spring rate for the wastegate( type R) that comes in the t-78 kit? is it the .8 - 1.2kg/mm spring? and if it is im guessing that spring would be to soft for 19+psi

I have the SBC-iD. Works like a charm for everything I've thrown at it so far.

AVC-R is a peice of shite...

HKS EVC PRO is the best out of the the controllers I have used to the day, but I never go into Manuals...
