for $100 dollars you can get a good quality used name brand downpipe here in the forum and not have to gamble with ebay specials.

DaleClark 02-11-10 08:34 PM

Yep, Ebay crapola, avoid. The Ebay downpipes/midpipes fit like garbage.

Get a quality used one (they're not hard at all to find) and get it Jet-Hot 2000 coated. It'll be like brand new, you'll get great fit, and you'll have reduced temps with the coating.

Still e-bay stuff. I suggest you save your money for a namebrand downpipe and aviod headaches in the future. It would really suck to go thru all the trouble removing the stock downpipe and find out your e-bay part doesn't fit. Just my opinion of course.

muibubbles 02-11-10 10:55 PM

if you need one i have one for 90 shipped with wb bung welded... just dont go with ebay stuff for that when u can get a dp all over the forum..

Mr.FD3S 02-11-10 11:57 PM

actually, i get most of my parts from ebay. they do have legit brand name parts for a little cheaper than full retail. ebay isnt too bad just avoid the no name generic shit lol

teddyrx2 02-12-10 01:28 AM

MR.FD3S is correct...when shopping on ebay your pretty much shopping in the dark on those performance parts...

But on a side note i haven't had any problems with the ebayparts that i have bought...fitment wise and the performance the deliever...just shop with your eyes open...

If you buy the shit, and it fits good, with no leaks, and sounds nice...good for you,,,but if all doesn't work out, it won't be a big loss...

zweetz32 02-12-10 02:02 AM

i have the exact same downpipe. Bolts on and fits perfectly. The bolts they give you to secure the downpipe to turbo will not fit. Go out and get yourself some allen ones at the hardware store. why would you spend 100+ on just a midpipe when it's just a straight pipe? for 100 bucks you're getting both a downpipe and midpipe. Nothing wrong with this kit unless someone can explain to me otherwise why it's a bad idea to get it. Mine fits perfectly with my apex n1 exhaust.

Bryan Jacobs 02-12-10 02:44 AM

Ive used the ebay downpipe with absolutely NO problems whatsoever. However I would not use the crappy gasket they give you for between the turbos and d-pipe because it will burn out in 5 min. go with an oem downpipe gasket (which incidently will cost you as much as the downpipe!).

DaleClark 02-12-10 07:58 AM

The Ebay downpipes/midpipes are a roll of the dice on fit. You might get one that fits well, you might get one that fits crap.

Also, if you haven't worked with parts that DO fit right, you might not know that the fit is bad since you have nothing to compare it against.

I bought an Ebay midpipe a while back to experiment with. Looks OK, but when you tighten the bolts up it cocks the exhaust up towards the car, the exhaust would bump and hit when it moves and the muffler tip was pushed up into the bumper a bit.

Also, some of the downpipe/midpipe combos have to be run together for decent fit, they don't work with other parts, only with themselves. The real concern I have here is people who don't know better, getting a midpipe for cheap, then wondering 1 month later why their engine blew. A midpipe is a MAJOR upgrade and a quick recipe for a blown engine if the car isn't set up for it.

I buy plenty of stuff off Ebay, but I buy good used parts, not the made-for-Ebay Chinese made garbage. The FD is a SUPERIOR CAR and deserves SUPERIOR PARTS. Save the Ebay junk for the Hondas and Cavaliers of the world.

my friend has an ebay downpipe that cracked at the weld at the first bend (where the 4 bolts bolt up to the turbo) you can visually see the crack on the weld and now he has a big exhaust leak....

spend a bit more, buy a brand name downpipe.... get one of those hks thingys that comes in a hks box so you know there isnt a chance for a 'freak' accident...

The "middle" section on the FD has the main catalytic converter. You can replace this section with a midpipe or a highflow cat. You technically can get a midpipe and have a highflow cat welded or bolted in the middle.

In the FD world, people refer to "midpipe" as a middle pipe without any converters or restrictions in place. Hope that helps.

i think it's funny how bad people hate on "ebay stuff".

come on guys, it's just a !*@%ing downpipe/midpipe. how bad can it be? it's not like it is a moving part. exhaust goes though it. whoop tee doo. from what ive heard, some of the "ebay" down/midpipes fit pretty well, others just need a little "adjusting". for the price, it's worth the gamble.

the problem with ebay stuff is that you have to know what to look for - the goods and the bads. often times, the "bads" can be corrected with a little work.

Well I was thinking of running the downpipe and midpipe and adding a high flow cat to it will the car be fine and not get boost creep?

Thanks again guys for all of the answers this helps me out so much its been 8 years since my last fd.
