any one have advice on the alt belt w/ out airpump?

i have been having problems with my alternator belt w/ no air pump. i read on a past thread the size and replaced it after it broke but it keeps breaking on me. i dont know what i am doing wrong. it is squeeling a lot until it warms up and then will break after a few days. i have changed it 3 times already. it could be partly because the crank pulley is bent and scratched up, how that happened.. i have no idea, but it may be causeing inappropriate wear. any one have any tips? thanx

I would run the car, even rev it while watching the belt. (Protect your face in case it snaps) Look to see if it is skipping over the treads on the pullies. That would be causing abnormal wear. Is it a 4rib or 5rib belt? The wobbly pulley is probably causing problems too.

Usually squeeling means the belt is too loose.

Pettit has a belt listed on their site for $24 or so. you can get that same exact belt from your local parts store for $14.

How tight are you tightening the belt? You want it to be secure against the WP pulley, but not so tight that you can't squeeze some slack in the belt.

Not too tight. Should have about 1/4" to 3/8" play in the belt. The squeeling sounds like the belt rubbing around because of the bent pulley.

$100 should get you a good used Pettit Power Pulley. = Nice
