Any new feedback on Race Logic traction control for the FD

Hey

I am starting to consider the Race Logic traction control now that i believe i am convinced that it won't hurt my motor. I was just wondering if anybody has an new customer feedback that they may want to share for us.

Does anybody have any input on whether it helped or hurt your 1/4 mile ETs. I am running a Bfg drag radial, has anyone tried the unit out with a drag radial, and how much did it help you.

Any and all new input on the TC system is appreciated.

Adam

Is anybody using this?

jimlab 11-08-04 11:35 AM

Jim Swantko has it on his ~800 RWHP Supra, and there are a couple on RX-7s (Rice Racing, for example), but for the most part, I think that most of the units sold in the group buy are just sitting in people's closets/garages.

I've yet to see someone post installation pictures.

lol,

How much exactly did people end up getting the TC unit for with the launch control and no lift to shift option in the group buy?

Well, if people are willing to sell, let me know, i may be interested. must have launch control and no lift to shift option.

I would think BFG drag radials would be all the traction control you would need! ;)

I wish. I either launch too soft and bog, or i launch hard and spin in place. There is like no middle ground. One time it will launch beautifully at a certain rpm, and the next it wont launch at all and bog. Plus, i do a lot of street racing and am very rarely at the track. During night time condition, the ground tends to be cold and the tire just doesnt want to bite. Plus i dont like to lower the tire pressure in my tire to any lower than the 20 psi i have in them during normal driving.

bump, sorry, but im really interested in knowing. Im sure someone has something to say about it.

1. They make portable rechargeable compressors.
2. You drive around with 20 psi of pressure in your tires on a regular basis?!?!

Their are several threads on Supra forums that will in part answer your questions. When programed correctly, they will improve all the things you mentioned. I said programmed, because you need to select when, and to what degree the cut occurs. Set it wrong, and it hits too hard, or at an in-opportune rpm, set it right, and you will really like it. I am one of the guilty RLTC un-installed owners, mine is probably destined for my Supra, and luckily is programed for road racing, so I will not have to fiddle to much. As an aside, does Jim know he's making 800??? I think his car is up there, but not 800. Carl

His signature says 785 RWHP. Close enough. :)

Jim Swantko 11-11-04 01:03 PM

This was with the car as it sat. No iced intake - no reset ECU - no super lean A/F (11.3 or so) still had air filter, etc... no tricks. Also it was after about 20 pulls - so the motor was warm and it was in the middle of July in MD. Nasty dyno weather to say the least. I'm sure I could play and crack into the low 800's pretty easily - but that's not me. I want to know what my car does day in and day out.

Regardless - it's still plenty for me. :)

Without the racelogic it would be "almost" undriveable on high boost... pump gas it made 592rw BTW.

If you have questions about the install I'd be happy to help. It took me a weekend to install - nothing bad - but the harness is a bit tedious.

Jesus christ. now that's power.
Good job. That thing must pull unbelievably hard.

Carl Byck 11-11-04 02:08 PM

Nice Jim, I did not realize you had gotten that far, great job. What turbo are you running now? Carl

the_glass_man 11-11-04 02:10 PM

Nice numbers, does it have any track times to back it up? :D

Jim Swantko 11-11-04 03:41 PM

Thanks... the car is lots of fun. :)

No times... but I'm sure they'd be pretty shitty as I haven't been down the 1/4 mile in about 3 years. haha

Carl... this is a 76GTS/ .81 A/R around 28.5 psi or so... not too bad for a VPC car.

POM HB 11-11-04 11:45 PM

I have one....installed....no time to program....shit!

But, it works. Engine is still good, so no worries there. Oh, mine is 'older version' of the racelogic...no pretty traction switch. Anyway, can't give much feedback, but I feel 'safer' now that I know I can limit my tail out habit.

fastcarfreak 11-12-04 12:05 PM

How do you have this unit programmed? who would be a good person to do this?

Jim Swantko 11-12-04 09:08 PM

It comes pre-programmed which I'm still using. You can fine tune it... but the standard program is quite good.

Anyone else install it yet on their 7? Just curious

yeah, I was following that listing. I might send him an e-mail and ask, although I hope he doesn't just try to "sell" me on it.

One forum member "Spank" uses it on his autox 7.

I'm the guy and I promise I won't sell you on it... I bought this thing to use at the track (roadcourse) and felt like I was cheating when I used it - so I didn't. I don't drag race so I didn't ever use the traction control. It was very impressive around the street but I say that for safety reasons only (keeps the tail in shape). Acceleration from a stop is probably improved because it won't let you spin your wheels too much, but I never timed a thing.

It was relatively easy to install (1-2 hours).

Mark,

what settings were you using when you went to the track (road course)?

Tim
