okay, after breaking an axle and getting tired of clunking, i've gone through $1k to replace and modify my rear to eliminate both. i replaced all my pillow ball bushings, got polyurethane diff mounts, m2 trailing arms, pettit toe links, a diff brace, and i installed a kaaz before i really started replacing all this.

after all of this, the damn thing still wheelhops. i have no clunking whatsoever, but if i slip the clutch at a lower rpm to kind of launch it, it'll start spinning smooth, then around 6k it starts shaking violently. it does it on the track too, which keeps me from doing burnouts and such. the only things i have not done is replace the shocks and do an alignment. would doing those cause that much difference in the way it behaves or do i have the worst fd suspension ever?

you did all that suspension work and didnt get an alignment? i would get that done and then see how the car handles. when i replaced a bunch of parts in my FD's susp(toe links/ trailing arms/ coilovers) it was horrible until i got an alignment

Shaking or wheel hop, they are two different things. Wheel hop occurs at the beginning of hard acceleration not toward the end. And wheel hop as the name indicates, literally makes the rear end of your car hop up and down. What you are discribing doesn't sound like wheel hop.

My car shakes as you described - - I always thought it was wheel hop too... Right around 6k in first gear it starts shakin

no, it's definately wheel hop, it'll do it from a dead stop too. it's just when moving at speed, it shakes more than it hops due to momentum. the reason i haven't gotten an alignment is because i was in the process of buying coilovers and figured it would be a waste of time. you say after the alignment, it helped? i'm pretty sure my shocks are original after 114k miles, but i wouldn't think they'd do that much damage

Did you drop your tire pressures a bit. What kind of wheels and tires are you running with?

Drop your tire pressure 10psi next time you are on the track, it should stop the wheel hop, and help on the launch too.

Like most everyone already said, get an alignment. It will probably help out some too.

i am running stock wheels with nitto 555r drag radials, i've dropped them to 14psi at the track and still no such luck. i didn't want to drop them any further due to loss of contact patch

Defiantly get an alignment! After I did the M2 t/a and t/l my alignment was way off.

Your shocks and tires can also cause wheelhop.

i'd say the alignment has the most to do with it, but as soon as i get my coilovers which should be in the next week or two, i'll get a full alignment and see where that gets me. if that don't work, i guess i'll have to sell her!

Your shocks and tires have more to do with it then the alignment.

What type of suspension do you have out back? Stiff springs will cause you to have wheel hop as well. If you still have problems with wheel hop....launch at 6.5k or 7k vs. 6k. Better to spin tires than to wheel hop.

no trying to be a dick, but its funny that you spent all that money on suspension related stuff and didn't even do shocks when your stockers have 114k miles! and on top of that no alignment?

get some shocks and an alignment and report back. don't need coil overs. shocks will do.

you dont need a 4 wheel alignment...just get the rears aligned. if that doesnt work then i would start looking at tires and shock combos. after my trailing arms/ toe end links... the alignment was way off. i couldnt believe it so bad!!!

You must really beat the hell out of your car. If you're serious about racing, rear suspension is one of the most important things to keep in shape. Unless your ball joint/pillow ball bushings are all rotten, the added performance that new ones will make will not stand out unless you have stiffened up the components that permit more travel and flex than they do- struts and springs. It seems that money is not that much of an option to you. If you're experiencing rapid shaking under power, check your powerplant frame. If your shifter is bouncing up and down, the ppf is broken. Even if its not, its something worth checking out. Change out your stock suspension with coilovers or good struts and springs and get the car aligned. You will need it with the lowered ride height that generally all performance suspension comes with. While your suspension's apart, check the rest of the bushings to make sure you haven't broken anything or worn it beyond functional integrity. With the number of miles on your car, things can break if you're beating it up a lot on the track. Alignment is important and at all four wheels if you throw in a set of coilovers or run upgraded suspension all around. Toe links and trailing arms are a big factor on the misalignment problem too. Finish the work on your car and make sure nothing is broken and get it aligned. Then try it again. Just don't get mad at its performance and response if you beat the hell out of it before then.

i've been under the car and around every component several times to check things out and nothing is broken or worn that i can tell. the reason i never replaced the shocks is because i was waiting to buy a coilover setup. no sense in spending $400-500 on shocks when I can get coilovers for $1k. The only reason I started replacing stuff is because it had gotten really bad and I was slowly trying to fix it and things just got out of hand. I didn't want to spend all that on the rear, but it was obviously in need of it anyways. I'll have some new suspension in a couple weeks, so we'll see what that and an alignment will do for it
