any advice? big vaccum hose project coming up
 

well, i just ordered a triple gauge center speaker pod from flyrx7 as well as an oil pressure, water temp, and air fuel gauge (all autometer mechanical, except for a/f of course)

also ordered msd 8.5MM plug wires and a vaccum hose kit

anyone have any recommendations as far as installing the gauge or doing the vaccum job goes? i suspect faulty solenoids, so we'll see

i am considering fuel injector cleaning, how $$ is that? can i get them enlarged with the factory ecu, or will a diff ecu be required?

where do i get another FPD? everyone says to replace it...help?

will a gunked up/dirty solenoid (oil clogged) register as faulty? how do i detect those?

Theres many many threads on the vac hose job. Most with helpful tips and foresight. Take your time, and take breaks whenever you feel you need to (it was often for me, but the FD is not the Daily Driver). Don't rush yourself or you will break things. It's not difficult, its tedious.

I just finished this myself (due to a leaky FPD), and I changed out : The fuel and coolant hoses under the UIM, all the vacuum hoses and check valves, injectors cleaned and new orings/isolators, changed some of the philips head screws under there to allen head, and plug wires.

Print out the colored vacuum diagram, and blow it up to a print of 3 pages by 4 pages - this helped my sanity tremendously throughout the project.

Take the hood off the car - this will make a huge difference in the light available, as well as the angles and orientation you put yourself for the engine bay.

Jack the car up a bit if you can.. your back WILL thank you.. FD's are loooooow.


The solenoids should not be oil clogged. The FSM has a test method for them when you have them accessible. If you break one or find out its faulty, most of the time you can pick them up cheap in the parts for sale section from someone that went single or nonseq - they are pricey from the dealer

You will need an ECU to control a larger injector properly.

Many times during the process I doubted my ability to reconnect everything correctly, or got so frustrated I had to leave the car, hands shaking. Walk away and come back with a fresh attitude.

Now that its fixed, driving it today with the 13-9-12 boost pattern, everything working perfectly, it was all worth it.... and all me that did it :)

i ilke the allen wrench head screw idea, i'll do that for sure...i ordered the hose kit from rx7store, will that be enough to get the fuel hoses and coolant hoses? i wouldn't think so...i can just get some of the kevlar hosing from napa, that's what i used on the coolant lines to my turbos...it rocks

I was in the process of doing a hose job, and broke some solenoids and saw the WHOLE rats nest, and did a lot of reading about non-seq, and made a NS diagram from the simplified vac line diagram and saw how simple the system could become...recieved damaged radiator in the mail, should get picked up today and new one should be in next week, new hoses already on...most of the 26 vac lines are in place, the two remaining solenoids are ready (keeping air pump)...injectors are on their way home, new fuel filter is ready to go on...modded exh. manifold and twins are on their way home too...need to place order for SMIC...I'll have a recommendation in about two weeks ;)

I don't recommend non-sequential, but that is just my personal preference.. again, lots of threads to read up on the pros and cons of this.

One thing I did was print out the colored hose diagram real big, I think I printed it on Super A3 sized paper and got it laminated at Kinko's. That way I could have it out in the garage with me and get the thing as dirty as I wanted.. that diagram is truly invaluable.

My advice is send those piece of shit MSD wires back and get ANYTHING else. Do a search for MSD under my screenname and you will see why.

As far as non sequential vs sequential - I was about to go NON seq from the boost problem/vacuum line problems I had. I rode in a friends non seq car and it was nice and smooth, albiet a little laggy... decided to stick it out and redo everything for sequential. The response is tremendous, I don't think I would even consider non-seq for my car now.. Most of my driving is done under 80-100 mph and the sequential system, when working properly, is awesome for this IMHO

okay, so i can't use the block off plate

got the car back together last night, looking good so far...cranked it, drove around, runs smooth and clean, one problem...missing a check valve, so i can't say for certain that it was a success or not

but polishing my fuel lines and replacing all coolant lines with kevlar lines, refinishing/painting my air pump, solenoid rack, ignition coil tray, new plug wires....random polishing of other parts


it looks NICE and runs smooth
