I am finishing up rebuilding the motor and putting it back in the car. And well i came apon a problem. Have searched and found nothing, but i am kinda a newb at this search thing. But, i am connection the crank angle sensors and need to knowif the white connector goes on the right or left?

This is in the perspective that i am looking at the front of the motor. All help is appreciated. Thanks.

der ya go man

get that shit fired back up............pronto

rx-sleven 11-28-07 01:00 PM

O and also was trying to diagnose why it is not starting. I looked at one of the fuel lines (the one from primary to secondary fuel rail) and it seems to have a nice bend in it to make it to the secondary fuel rail? Is that normal??

I know that i have fuel pressure i checked that last night, but it will turn over with no ignition. I am about to go and check for spark. But, any other helpful hints i am down to have ha. Need to get this thing running today.

I checked the sensor screen on the commander and there is no highlighted sensors, i have no airump or ac. And also it is non-sequential.

Thanks again.

surfmon 11-28-07 01:21 PM

hate to say it, but check your fuses.............

mine cranked over but would not fire..................it was the EGI fuse

rx-sleven 11-28-07 01:27 PM

ok well say that that fuse is not good. I would not be getting any spark at all would I? I dont think so.

rx-sleven 11-28-07 01:49 PM

O and just checked the spark and i was getting spark to the plugs. Now it is time to check the plugs and then from there i assume the injectors?

I took the upper off and it smelled like gas so i assume that is hinting that i am getting fuel. So the search continuies.

bryant 11-28-07 01:57 PM

maybe its just flooded.

rx-sleven 11-28-07 03:28 PM

Yea, i put a little starter fluid in it and it started. Didnt start right away but it did.

But after getting it to start and let it run for a little bit, i noticed the high idle. It was right about 1500. But, then it started to creep up to around 2300 and i shut it off. ?!?!?! What is up with that?

And also, after i got it running, i turned it off and tried to start it again and it has trouble starting. And ideas on that as well?

Thanks

Sounds like fouled plugs. I had the same issue getting my rebuilt motor to start. The initial problems I had at first, fouled new plugs real quick. After that, I could only get it started using starter fluid or something else dripped into the LIM. I bought another set of plugs and the car fired right up without a hitch.

Seems like that could have been the problem. I put new ones in and it is getting better.

Also, it is idleing at around 2k. I still have everything on the upper tb set for a oem motor. I have street ported it and now i am wondering if i need to reajust the throttle plates and all to suit the new ports???? HELP !!!!

revhardallday 11-28-07 05:01 PM

do you have pfc?

if so check the idle on there.

Did you readjust the TPS within specs (at normal operating temp, without electrical load) when you put it all back together? I had this exact problem when I adjusted the TPS when the car was warm but the fans were still running (stupid I know, I just didn't know any better back then). It idled at 1500 and continued to creep up to 2500 at which point you could move from a stop to 40 mph without touching the gas. Yikes. If the TPS is all good, I'd check both idle control adjustments (the screw on the top front of the TB and the screw on the bottom of the TB under the elbow). Hope you get everything squared away.

Well thanks for all of the help guys, it ended up being the thermal wax was not working right. But i got it all fixed.

Now on to my current problem..... I put oil in it and drove it around yesterday and it did good. Well i changed the oil and now i put 5 quarts in it just to finish cleaning out the motor and it drips all over the place and ALOT!

It is coming from all around the oil pan in and around the motor mount area. It is also dripping out of the service port on the bottom side of the tranny. Does this sound like a bad seal on the oil pan to you???

It leaks the same when the car is running and when it is not. Does not stop. I was hoping that it is not the rear main seal or leaking from one of the main bolts, but i dont think that it is because of how it constantly leaks........ i am still leaning towards the oil pan.

I am saposed to go out of town with it tomorrow, so if you think it is the oil pan. What is the best way to reseal that and about how long should it take. Done it once before but i dont remember the time.

THnaks again.

rx-sleven 11-29-07 10:50 PM

Well bump...

I need some opinions before i start on this thing tomorrow if i do. Kinda need to know if i should even try.

GoodfellaFD3S 11-29-07 11:20 PM

Are you sure it's not leaking from somewhere higher, like the oil filter pedestal or oil filler neck? Is it all around the oil pan, both driver and passenger side? How did you seal the oil pan.....I hope you didn't use the stock gasket. Oil coming from the inspection plate on the tranny isn't good. Did you replace the rear main seal?

rx-sleven 11-29-07 11:23 PM

O and another thing.... is there anything on the rear of the motor that would leak while the car is not running. It is weird to me how it is all in the tranny to. But at the same time i dont think that the rear main or anything like that would leak so bad when the car is off.

rx-sleven 11-29-07 11:25 PM

Yes i replaced the rear main, and as for the leak. I looked on the block and it did not look like it was coming from anywhere higher. I checked the oil filter neck, fill area, oil pressure sending unit, and a few others. But.... it is a constant leak and seems like it does not slow down either way.

Edit: read the post again and no i did not use the stock gasket i used rtv. It seems to be predominantly leaking from around the motor mount area which could be leaking into the tranny????????

GoodfellaFD3S 11-29-07 11:28 PM

Probably best to get the car up on a lift and run it with someone underneath to check it out. One other thing you can look at is the oil level sending unit. You didnt answer my question about whether you used the stock oil pan gasket or not......

I guess you missed the edit. But no i didnt. And it is coming from higher then the oil level sending unit like at the base of the tranny. So i dont think that could be it could it?

rx-sleven 11-30-07 12:00 AM

And now that i think of it, it was on somewhat of a incline the whole time that it was at the shop and i noticed it was leaking. It was not much, but the lowest part of the car was the passenger rear. That might be why it was in the tranny and coming out of the inspection plate area.

The only reasons that i am going with oil pan is as follows

-it is a constant leak that is the same when the car is on or off
-it is all around the oil pan
-coming and dripping from the motor mount area as well
-all the areas of the block above the oil pan are still clean (except for the oil filter pedestal. But i changed the oil today and filter and think that the excess oil is form that)
-and finally i am still not that great at sealing things completely with rtv.... hints or tips are always accepted haha.
-just rebuilt the motor with new rear and front main seals

other then that who know. Just looking for some genius advice.

You seem like a real savvy guy with tools. Just put the car up on some jack stands, clean off the motor, and then start the car. You should be able to find exactly where the oil is coming from in no time.

As far as sealing the oil pan, I've had good success with Permatex® Ultra Grey.
