Another Power Steering Pulley Option - RX7.com
Ive been through at least 2 Power Steering Pullies just removing and reinstalling the sucker from all the misc times ive had to remove it to get to something deep inside there, those reinforced paper mache pullies just crumble.
Dont remove them with a pulley/bearing puller becuase all that does is chip away at the pulley lip in 3 places. You can TRY to put that flat head behind it and pry it free, but youll just chip the lip in one place instead of the 3. And then, if you manage to get it off without harm, you can try to not drop it and watch it shatter. Dont ask how I know all of this...:wallbash: Rotary Performance, aka RX7.com, has produced a PS pulley for us true rotor heads. Its OEM in size, so no worries about finding the right belt. The pully even has Rotors machined out of the center :D http://images36.fotki.com/v1161/phot...SC00452-vi.jpg Stupid paper mache... http://images31.fotki.com/v1095/phot...SC00527-vi.jpg New Pulley, so gangsta... I replaced the nut too with a SS one to match the pulley. I think ima remove it again to paint the top of that power steering pump thread so that its rusty goodness isnt showing. http://images33.fotki.com/v1139/phot...SC00529-vi.jpg Too bad my IC pipe covers so much of the pulley. It still looks great though! http://images35.fotki.com/v1128/phot...SC00531-vi.jpg I believe the price is 185. I dont have the reciept in front of me to verify it though. You guys will have to call Mary to place the order as the pulley isnt available on the site. OH! The coolest part: becuase of the open rotors in the face of the pulley, when the car is on and the pulley is spinning; under fluoresent lighting the rotors dance around the pulley!  |
That is pretty cool.
|
damn that's a nice pulley. I think I know the next "bling" upgrade I'm going to get Rich to do..lol

Billet Power Steering Rotor Pulley- (Silver)
I think RX7.com is the same as the Pettit which is the one we carry. |
Any estimates to the difference in HP at the wheels when using the heavier pulley?
There is a reason the original one is so light. I have an aluminum pulley, but have not installed it as it weighs about 3x what the stock one does. |
I really doubt it's measurable. My bet is that be biggest reason MAZDA made the OEM one out of plastic was economics. Being light was just a bonus.
|
Sorry if this was already covered.. did the power steering pulley come with a bearing fitted? Trying to replace my stock one at the moment and struggling to even get the the bearing part number lol |
The pulley doesn't have a bearing in it. It's a 17 spline fit onto the pump
|
That makes it easy! thsnks bro |
FWIW, you'll need an impact to get the PS pulley nut off. After that I can usually wiggle and eventually work the pulley off the spline..
