Another mod from deep in the Garage...

Took this idea from the pvc pod guy a little further. Using autometer 2-1/16" gauge pods, some 1/8" aluminum plate, the original center spkr frame and some customizing and this is what I came up with for a 4 gauge center spkr pod....
Time - 3 hrs Cost - @ $100 Appearance - I like it ! I can email the whole series of photos to someone who can host them on their web page for others to research and copy if you wish ..... |
Wow, that looks nice! Good work. Pop some gauges in there and show us some more pictures!
|
Wow I really like that! Good work. +1 on some finished photos!
|
i like it but i dont like how the gauges would be elevated
|
That looks fine for a track car. I certainly wouldn't want all of that on a "nice" car. I don't like all of the exposed bolts, and I have never been a fan of any gauges in that location.
Like I said, if its a track car, I think its great. |

Wow, your dash looks white
I'd try to hide it too if my dash was that faded :P way to try something new most people just complain about what's available instead of trying to come up with a new idea -Tim |
Back from the dead, haha.
I was thinking of doing something like this myself. The pods that mount on the center speaker are nice, but I want something different. When I was in Japan it seemed like they mounted their gauges more like this, independent of each other rather than in a pod. It also allows you to put them wherever you like rather than all grouped together. I don't know why, I just like this better. I never thought about using PVC and I was going to try to make the metal base plate less noticeable, but basically this is what I was going for. I wanted something different but it's good to know I'm not the only one that likes it too, haha. Any update on this? Got gauges in the pods now? |
i dont like it i'm sorry. and i know "if you dont have something nice not say...". but you asked for opinions. i'd rather see a dash molded version, thats my style. though i do like little projects like these better than spending countless dollars for something that someone else made.
custom or nothing right ;):icon_tup: |
I see your dash is quite disassembled. Mine is not, but I want to replace my center speaker with a gauge pod setup.
Question: Do you have to get into the dash to remove the center speaker? Or is it possible to remove that center speaker from the top of the dash. I tried messing with it just to see if I could remove the speaker and didn't have any luck. I didn't want to force it and break anything since my interior is in mint condition. I'm hoping to get an answer from someone who has already removed their center speaker. |
Yes it is done now and looks great - IN MY OPINION. It is a good way to mount gauges in that center spkr location using what you can buy from summit racing. Also the dash is NOT faded, just highlighted by camera flash.
I can send you some pics Speedjunkie if you want to see the finished product. later |
^Yeah that'd be cool man, thanks! I'll pm you my email address. I actually thought of another way I'm gonna go I think too. But if I don't go with that, I'll probably do like you did.

I like it . Nice work.
