Another emissions thread

Well it is that time again for me in CA, the biannual smog test. I wanted to post this thread as a before/after of the testing procedure to possibly help others when their time comes.. aside from having a couple of questions about my proposed strategy. :)

The car is converted to single turbo, visual is not a problem for me, I just need it to pass a real sniffer test on the dyno. Last weekend I put the main cat back on and hooked up the airpump/ACV system. I also reinstalled the EGR valve and blew out the catch tank under the throttle body, and swapped my stock 850cc injectors in place of the 1300's (more on this reasoning later). New 7's and 9's for spark plugs, and all solenoids plugged in but only the EGR and ACV related ones with hoses routed. I will also be adding 25% denatured alcohol on the tank for the test.

So for now the car has the PFC in with a map very close to the base mod map. My only debate right now is whether to plug the stock ECU back in for the test or leave the PFC in and take my chances with the EGR not functioning as a result. Will my EGR really make all that much difference? Aren't EGR systems intended to reduce NOx, which is inherently low in rotaries anyway? This debate over the ECU is why I dropped the 850's back in and plugged all the solenoids back in as well, just in case I decide to swap I don't have to remove the UIM again. I will post results as soon as I have them..

Will the denatured alcohol lower the NOX or is it only for the other stuff? My Honda failed and I have no idea if it has EGR stuff in it.

Hey Matt, Did you ever get in tested? Or did you put the results in another thread?

Thanks

Here are my before and after numbers with a streetport.
before:
HC (PPM):
Measured 146 @ 15mph, Allowed 88
Measured 83 @ 15mph, Allowed 53

After:

1. A few weeks after my first test my air pump seized and took out my belt, so I bought a used one.
2. changed the spark plugs
3. changed the oil
4. 2 gallons of denatured alcohol into 5 gallons of gas
I think 4 was the clencher.
New numbers:
HC (PPM):
Measured 25 @ 15mph, Allowed 88
Measured 16 @ 15mph, Allowed 53
So I went from 146 to 25 and from 83 to 16 !!!!!

I cant't find what my before NO was buy my after was 255, the max allowed was 804
