another crazy boost problem...

so i just moved to St Louis and prior to the move i was boosting fine in every gear. not that the move has anything to do with this, but the car was subject to some spirited driving the first couple of days that i was here.

anyhow, here is the problem...

when under heavy load in 2nd gear i have normal boost on the primary then at changeover it drops to 4 +/- psi, flutters for a bit and then jumps back up to normal at around 6500 rpm.

it only does the fluttering in 2nd gear but during transition drops to 5 psi in every gear but secondary comes fully online immediately after changeover (at ~4800-5000 rpm)

thanks for any info at all!!!

ok, new info....i drove it today and it did the same thing in all the gears that it did in second. i also noticed that the variables change depending on outside temperature.

my first theory is that it is the turbo pre-control solenoid but before i spend a ton of money i would like to get some of your opinions.

thanx

Well first welcome to the STL area. I have been having a similar boost problem as well. I am thinking it leads back to air density but not really sure. Ther is at least one other that I know of that has similar problems.
Last winter the motor, turbos, every hose, injector, vacuum line were replaced.
When I let her rip this spring , low boost, no problem change pills, all is well again. Got hot and humid, low boost again. Working on a couple of ideas please e-mail me direct at satman@norcom2000.com

Have you checked/tested the Turbo Control solenoid?

majikeye 07-14-03 08:22 AM

That's the first thing I would check. Why not PM "Resource". I believe he's in the STL area. Heck, there are a ton of guys in the STL area:

Start sending out some PM's. I'm sure any of them would help you out.
