Does this sound kinda shady?

fdeeznutz 02-21-04 08:49 PM

it is a scam

fastcarfreak 02-21-04 09:51 PM

sounds shady, if he can cover the shipping tell him you will give him an extra 500 dollars on top of the car. Tell him he will get his money when you get the car. Otherwise see if you can contact someone in germany (good luck?) that can be sort of a 3rd party.

Scam is my first guess. But if you really want to spend some time and challenge the guy on it, I was thinking along the lines of what fastcarfreak suggested...
Tell the guy that you'll deal through a German broker who will come by with the 3K but take possession of the car at that time. See what his response is.

Anything involving a Western Union transfer is usually a scam.

there was alot of this going on earlier this year, almost the same emails word for word (similar to the one you got)...supposedly the FBI is was looking into it because many people fell for it...it was a nigerian crime ring i guess....i'll look for some more info on it if i can remember where i saw it

Androidmj 02-22-04 12:03 AM

here it is, they send you a fake cashiers check, you cash it, send the car, then 2 weeks later the bank relizes its counterfiet and you lose your car and they take the money back out of your bank account because your check was fake....

I know its a little different than what your posting because in these ones they buy your car off you, but it sounds similar in some respects, especially the broken english and requesting western union (which is what many scams are run through)

I was looking to buy a projector from ebay but the member had 0 feedback and just registered. The price was extremely low but whatever I thought it was worth a try. I emailed him to setup something like escrow or paypal... nope the guy only accepted money transfer, so I just decided to watch and see who bought it. Also what they gave each other as feedback. Sure enough the feedback was something along the lines of "Never recieved item.. blah blah"

Sounds fake to me.

RX-7racer88 02-22-04 03:01 AM

Yeah sounds kinda like a scam to me too. I remeber that thing about the FBI looking in to that ring in Africa or where ever it was. Just be carefull man.

Neat trick to send a car AIR FREIGHT, maybe its a MATCHBOX car?

SCAM!

racer1 02-22-04 05:53 AM

Definitely SCAM!! How can you send a car air freight? And only 999$???? I payed 1300$ to import the car from Japan by ship.

WHIPSrx7 02-22-04 02:11 PM

Extremely shady!!! LOL The vote is unanimous...DON'T GO FOR IT...

Recipe7 02-22-04 02:28 PM

i suggest you go to germany and kick him in the face

dubcaps 02-22-04 04:21 PM

If its only 3k why don't you ask the guy if you can fly to germany to pay him and pick up the car. Make up some BS about just getting a huge settlement from a medical mishap and therefore you aren't working and have lots of time and money on your hands.

wicked sol 02-22-04 09:06 PM

Well I emailed the guy asking for a copy of the title and said my grandparents lived in germany and would come by with a check and pick the car up if everything is cool. I haven't got a responce yet and I don't think I will.
It sucks people have to be like this. If they put all there effort and skill they use to rip people off and into somthing use full and legal They would most likly come out ahead and not have to look over the shoulder all the time.
