Another Boost Problem...
Okay well I recently installed a DP and an EBC to prevent spikes and just the opposite has occurred. I can only get about 7.5 psi of boost now when I was getting 10-8-10 before. I am nearly positive I hooked up the EBC up right but I could've made a mistake. I unhooked the 4 inch hose on the front turbo/wastegate and plugged the controller in, then I capped the nipple and hose on the other side of the wastegate. Does this seem right? I have a feeling however I may have switched the IN/OUT on the solenoid but would that cause this problem?

no, you must have hooked it up right, otherwise you probably would see extreme overboost. The wastegate wouldnt even open if it was hooked up right. Is there a setting for duty/cycle on your ebc? If so, turn up the boost and set the duty cycle down a little more until you get what you want.

I have my current settings at SET: 100:eek: and GAIN: 15.
Now I don't think that is right one bit, my boost should be through the roof but it doesn't fluctuate at all. |

Hmmm...No I've gone through most of my settings and they seem right.
It seems like the controller is just turned off because I can only boost to 7-8 psi. The only thing I can think of is that is connect wrong but I really don't think I have. I will check all my connections and try to verify but if anyone else has some advice its welcome. |
Well you're obviously using another piece of hose if you changed to an inline solenoid.
Make sure the pill/restrictor is PRE-solenoid input. |
Yeah I really don't know what's going on. Today I've been hitting a consistent 8psi. Could a hose be kinked or anything that may cause this? I am a bit relieved to have this be a problem instead of overboosting though! :)

This may make me look dumb but where is the solenoid in the stock setup?
Comp. nipple went to the IN partof the Blitz solenoid, the hose with the pill is completely removed, the OUT part of the Blitz solenoid is connected to the WG actuator, then on the other side of the WG act. I capped the nipple and plugged the hose. Thats right isn't it? |

There you go. Either increase the duty cycle of the Blitz solenoid (somewhere in the settings, I've never used Blitz EBC but they're all the same) or add the line with the pill back in. If the solenoid has the venting ability I recommend leaving the pill out and jacking the duty cycle up instead, it's more accurate. When the solenoid vents air from the compressor nipple it vents it before it gets to the wastegate actuator. The more you pressurize the WG actuator the more it will open. Due to the 7 psi spring in the WG actuator it will stay closed as long as you send it pressure under 7 psi. But the second you send it even 8 psi it will open. That is why Mazda used restrictor pills. So they could have the turbos actually producing 12-14 psi or so at the turbo manifold but the WG only sees 5-7 psi. If you use your aftermarket solenoid to vent more air before it even reaches the WG actuator the WG will stay closed longer, allowing you to produce more boost. Just be careful with the duty cycles and only raise by about 5% each time you test for max. boost. |
Hmmm....I understand exactly what you mean, I think I may have a bad electrical connection between the control unit and the solenoid because I have it turned ALL the way up but am getting no change, I think the hoses are connected fine but the wiring may be messed up somewhere keeping the computer from controlling the solenoid, I'm going to check that out tomorrow and hopefully something will work.

Solenoid should only need positive and ground, very simple circuit.

Well the Blitz has a solenoid,control box, and a wired remote so there are places where things could go wrong. Hopefully thats the problem and it will be fairly easy to solve.
