I want to change out the thermoswitch and install the miata thermoswitch. am I on the right path to find it. do I really have to take the alternator off. has anyone done it without removing alternator? can I see the thermoswitch in any of these pics? also if I want to replace some of the intake hoses with hard pipes what size couplers and clamps do I need for sure? I found too many conflicting threads on this? I am thinking of this site

The ABV (BOV) is the one closest to the front of the car. The CRV is the one closest to the firewall.

Most likely, you'll need to remove the alternator to get access to the thermoswitch.

The thermoswitch is not visible in any of the pictures because it's underneath some things.

In the center of the first pic, there is a an oil-soaked green/black plastic checkvalve. Under it, there is the bright forest green plastic connector that goes into the water pump housing. The thermoswitch is a similar looking part below the forest green one.

Like Mahjik said, removing the alternator gives you some access from the side to wrench it off.
