Am i gonna be ok?
 
I have had my FD for about a month. It is in the garage getting a makeover. I was wanting to know if there aws anything else that i needed to add. I dont plan on taking the motor much farther right now as far as mods. She only has 39,000 and i plan and putting the boost controller at 10lbs and leaving it alone. How am i doing, is there anything else i need?

ok here are the mods.

Greddy FMIC with greddy elbow.
Apexi intakes.
Centerforce Dual friction clutch.
Pettit AST.
Manual boost controller.
DP.
MP.
Turbo timer.
boost, water temp, AF gauges.
fuel filter.
optima battery.

The FMIC is going to block alot of air. It is not very wise to run the stock radiator with it.

You will most likely need to port your wastegate with a MP to avoid boost creep. A boost controller is only as good as the wastegate it controls.

An AF gauge is a waste of money if you don't have some sort of WB O2 sensor it can read off of.

When adding a MP, keeping the boost at 10psi is going to be difficult regardless if you have a boost controller. You are most likely going to need to port the wastegate to keep the boost down.

I would also suggest going with an aftermarket ECU. I am aware of the debate in which you "could" run a set-up similar to the one you listed above on the stock ECU, this is reliant on IF you are able the boost at the stock level. However, this is difficult to do when you throw a MP into the equation unless you have sufficient means to keep the boost down. A boost controller will most likely not do this.

I would ultimately go with an ECU and an aftermarket clutch on that set-up. When adding a MP you’re also stretching the holding capacity of the stock clutch, which is around 300RWHP from what I've read.

You would be much happier going with a Power FC or Pettit unlimited ECU tuned for those mods versus retaining the stock clutch and ECU, while trying to keep the boost at stock levels. Which is quite the uphill battle.

Sounds like the usual maintenance questions. There are lots of threads on this topic if you search for it.

I'd definitely replace your vacuum hoses and make sure your brakes are up to par. Doesn't matter if it's got 5K miles on it, it's still a 10+ year old year and materials break down after a while (fluids and solids).

I'd do this stuff before your mods. You'll need some sort of fuel/engine management system with all those mods... your engine will otherwise. Might as well get an Apexi PowerFC /w Commander (check out gothamracing.com or rx7store.net) to handle that. You probably could get some good power just with intake/exhaust, intercooler and the PFC.

You might experience problems with boost creep since the wastegate is not ported, just a caveat. If that's a case, you'll need a restriction in the exhaust, port the wastegate, or go with aftermarket turbos that have an external wastegate.

i have been searching, i also forgot to add that there is a centerforce dual friction clutch. I have searched every piece added to this car since i got it a month ago. She was bone stock when i got her and the parts are getting here every day. I searched for the best way to port the wastegate and did not find much help. Should i just remove the midpipe? I want the car to have some extra power apart from stock but still be as reliable as an FD can be. Like i said, after these mods and what we discuss here is needed, i will be done modding the motor.

if you want to aviod the boost creep issue and put everything on the car that you listed (and no ECU) maybe you should consider a high flow cat instead of a midpipe. It still opens up the exhaust, but will not give you the boost creep of the midpipe (or the awful smell ;) ). you wont loose that much HP with a high flow... and everything you listed will work well together with it.

I would go with power fc...it was my favorite mod of all time and someone else mentioned the radiator not getting much air to it with the front mount, at least keep a good eye on the temps if you don't get the upgraded rad. You did list the dual friction clutch originally.

yeah?:rolleyes: have you had much experience with this or just repeating what everyone else says on here for fun? Radiator wont hurt but it is NOT needed unless you are on a track for extended time periods.

like everyone else mentioned youll get creep with a full exhaust and intake. Even when I had mine set to 7psi by redline I was getting 12. But I also had a streetported motor so that flowed some more air. I had a pettit unlimited ecu for safety and ran 12psi on that for a long time with 0 problems. Id get that ecu if you get a non programable one or a pfc is amazing as well. For what you want sounds like a pettit will do. plus with those mods the fun is raising the boost a couple psi. Go get a pettit unlimited ecu. then you can leave the wastegate and get a midpipe which adds the most power of any mod on this car from stock.

Get the reliability, longevity, and diagnostics/monitoring stuff down first - then after that, mods are easy.

It's really up to you. Most people advise against running a midpipe on the stock ecu, because most people have difficulty keeping the boost at 10 psi with a midpipe. In theory, if you can keep the boost at 10 psi, you'll be fine on the stock ECU no matter what. But controlling creep is main issue.

In your position, I'd look for a high-flow cat. It gives you a bit more power than the stock cat, though not quite as much as a midpipe. But it's a lot safer to run in that boost creep isn't nearly as much of an issue. They also make the exhaust much quiter, and don't smell like a mp.

Thanks for all the help, how do i go about porting the wastegate, i have looked all over and serched on here with no real findings. I think i will keep the stock ecu for now and get rid of the MP and keep the DP for heat issues and etc. I also wonder this, i still have the far back piece of the exhaust with muffler that is stock on there, is that ok? I am guessing its not that bad of a problem to just run DP and the rst stock exhaust or with a cat in there.
