Aluminum Door Cup Broke

So I got a pair of the rotary13b1 aluminum door cups for Christmas and finally got around to test fitting them today. I've heard that they are really tight fitting so decided to try them without my door panels installed as I'm still piecing together my interior. I got the driver's side cup on, screwed down, and with everything looking good I decided to try closing my door. As soon as my door closed and latched I heard a pop and the cup began to wiggle at the front. Once I was able to pull the cup off I saw the tab that sits between the latch mechanism and door was gone.

Has this happened to anyone else, did I just get unlucky with my casting, or did I somehow royally screw something up? I took my latch mechanism off and saw no damage which is what makes me think it is was a problem with the aluminum, but idk. I also don't think it was anything on my part as the cup fit really well and I pulled on the door with the same amount of force that I normally would to close the door. I plan on reaching out to rotary13b1 to see if I can get a replacement but just wanted to see what others think.

Its a bummer b/c I also tested the passenger side w/o any issues, and they both fit really well and felt solid.

I've had mine for 7 years no problem, must've been a faulty unit.
Most likely a problem with the metal during casting, contact customer service.

Slight correction after checking my records, these were from Mazdatrix, NOT Rotary13b1

My issue with the metal cup was they fit "so tight" I could not remove without breaking the plastic tabs on the inside handle.
Cup has to come out to remove door panels for maintenance so I did not use them,

Yeah that was one reoccurring concern I saw before getting these. I tested fitted them in the door card while its off the car and on the door w/o the card and had no issues (besides the driver's side) but can definitely see them being a pain once everything is put together. One thing I was considering was possibly reshaping the retaining faces on the clips to have a bit more of a bevel. I've done that on a few of the tighter plastic to plastic and plastic to metal clips with seemingly good results.
