Alternator voltage draw....

I have a TII thats been modded out and I put an FD altenator in it...

My battery keeps going dead due to parasitic loss.. but i can't find the source..

I was monkeying with the alternator the other day and i forgot to hit the circuit breaker on the battery.. well, when i put the altenator back on the mount.. i noted a spark from the altenator case to the mount.... that tells me there's some voltage leaking there...

Is there a diode in the FD alternator like on older ford alternators that can go bad in the voltage regulator and allow voltage to bleed out through the alternator when the car is off????????

Or is something else wrong???

(the alternator is putting out a good charge when the car is running (14+volts) and the battery is good)

Hit up the TeamFC3S.org forum - this is a common problem when putting an FD alternator in an '86-88 FC. The alternator needs a relay in-line with the voltage regulator circuit or it will draw the battery down.

I've had the EXACT problem with my FC. Had the alternator double-checked and it was fine.

Thanks... That makes a LOT of sense... Hitting the damn circuit breaker every time i shut the car off is getting to be a PITA.. the Haltech doesn't care of course.. but resetting the stereo is a PITA
