hi guys polishing alternator,, ive got this far but cant get shaft out of bottom section last time I did this I remember giving it a couple of taps with a small hammer and it dropping out. Ive tried all sorts its not budging.. Any ideas of methods?

Hi CR- rex ive already viewed that video,, last time i did this the shaft came straight out of bottom part,, this time its not comming out. Did yours just come straight out.

the brushes in the alternator might be keeping it in...try to insert something like a paperclip into the small hole on the back like the video mentioned for reassembly.

If I remember correctly you only need paper clip for reinstalling shaft to hold brush ill have a good play around with it tomorrow

If the slip rings on that shaft have a groove in them from the brushes the brushes could be holding the shaft in place like nashman69g mentioned. Definitely worth trying :)

even if you was to push a paper clip through the hole you will hit the side of the brush how will you push the brush back. The hole is only to hold the brush to reinstall shaft.

Good point! What about using some heat where the rear bearing is, get the housing to expand a little to let the bearing and shaft drop out?
