Alternator relocation

5 Attachment(s)
I'm about to switch to an electric water pump (i'm looking for water pump flanges, too, so if you have an idea... ;) ) and thats why i want to relocate the alternator, AC is gone, so theres enough room for the alternator...

Unfortunately, the brackets you can buy are not for the FD3S front cover (cant see the problem modifying one), but i don't want to pay for something that doesn't fit right out of the box.

I know Defined Autoworks modified the PS bracket so you don't need an adapter, but i just found 2 pics on their website and they don't show how the bracket is modified.

Do you have any pictures of the Defined autoworks bracket or know better solutions?

I also found a quick-and-dirty version that will work, but it doesn't look very nice...

A nice bracket was from that old evil7.com website, i found that pic in a folder, but it wasn't made for the ps bracket in place (and i definitely will keep ps for several reasons).

I purchased the Atkins alternator relocator kit, and modified the base (actually made a new one), however I have not had the chance to install/test it. From memory, the 13B REW alternator sits 2 inches forward, than all other 13B alternators...

For the water pump flange, there are a few options, RXparts (SPEED_NYC on the forum or rxpartsonline@gmail.com) has one, and Pro-Jay Store also makes one

...for some reason i can't access the rxparts website...

there is also a cheap water pump flange on ebay actually, plus i find a company from nz called franklin engineering. They made a nice flange, that is also around $100.

They also offer that bracket, and it looks absolute identical to the XR part. Just curious that XR stated it " incorporates a mounting hole if the engine is using a FD3S (Gen 3) RX7 style front cover allowing it to fit all 1975 onwards engines (except RX8)" - but franklin says the bracket doesn't fit newer FD3S covers...i sent them a mail to clarify that...

For the flange, i'm actually tending towards making my own, as they are all very expensive for such a small part, and some only use 2 bolts...i wouldn't feel safe, knowing you could use 4 bolts in best case...

EDIT: I also found a flange from "black mamba racing" for about $100, too, that also has a sensor port. For some reason most of these flanges have the port on top, which it fine for easy access, but i would prefer a port at the bottom, for clean look and especially its out of the way so you can't damage it when servicing the engine...

As it seems, the best flange is the XR one, its the best looking and the only one that uses all 4 bolts around...

PM SPEED_NYC he will set you up with RXParts.

Saw the franklin engineering parts, the water pump flange is EXACTLY what I want, thanks for the heads up :icon_tup: Their alternator bracket WILL NOT be a bolt on in your REW. What they mean in their description is that it can be used on REW engines using first/second gen front covers (normally used on REW swaps onto other vehicles)
