alternate power source for gauge?

Hey guys i just installed my Defi boost gauges and i was planning on just using the ashtray(like so many others have) but when i took off the center peice to splice in the wire I noticed the ashtray light was missing(not just the bulb, but also the wire that goes from the bulb to the connector) WTF  .

Anyway, I was wandering if i can tap into the lights on the switches? ex light for the foglight or rear window defroster switch. and if so which wire do i splice into?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx

Try this. Wonderful invention, a fuse with an accessory blade.

hmm. that is very interesting. can these bepicked up at a regular auto store? would the cigarette fuse be a good spot to use this?

I don't know where they are sold. I got mine from the website. You replace an existing 20 amp fuse with their 20 amp fuse.

Those are quite interesting. Does the fused accessories get the same amount of power to it after you've tapped into it?

Well it looks like they tap the source side of the fuse, so the existing equipment still gets its rated amperage. Essentially you have two fuses in one package.

The new link gets it's own fuse. The bad part about this is if you blow the auxillary fuse (very possible if you misinstall the new equipment), you have to replace the entire unit.

There are similar break-out fuses available at most autoparts stores as well as car sterio places.

Just get the fuse taps from your local autoshop:

Mahjik: would that be a constant power supply? or would that only work while the ignition is in the "ON" position?

depends on the fuse or slot used... you would need a test light and like 10sec to find out

Is the fuse box next to the dead pedal the only one (besides in the engine bay)?

Yes, by the dead pedal.

Thanks for the tip on the fuse! I spent countless hours trying to find a place to tap-in for the lights on my pillar guages. Simple solution!
