Alright guys I need your input!
I'm ready for an engine and trans, after getting everything ready for a manual (was automatic). Alright so I'm stuck at a crossroads I've read so many posts saying not to order from a JDM sites because their motors have shitty compression, so I'm not sure about that but it comes with everything I need for around 2500, so my other choice would be sourcing a bad motor rebuilding and sourcing the rest of the parts from parts out and so on. If I were to go the 2nd route what exactly do I need to get the car running, I know I need the engine obviously and trans, UIM, LIM, turbos, manual starter, throttle body, fuel rails, and what else?? Any advice, help, and deals are greatly appreciated :gwink:
thanks to all, Hector |
JDM motors are a great way to go if you have an empty engine bay - you get all the little bits and pieces that can add up to big money.
The motor itself is a total luck of the draw. Some are good, some aren't. I'd plan on using it as a core to rebuild, most JDM motors are truly low mileage and have many good parts. Big thing is to look at the pictures of the motor, if it's clean, low mileage looking and isn't rusty and crappy, that's a good sign. There is an Ebay vendor that puts up Youtube videos with a compression test of the motor, that is a good way to see that you're getting a good one. Dale |
awesome thank you so much Dale!

yeah I thought of that also, how am I to know I'm getting the motor pictured, but it seems like 2500 is a deal considering I get it all, I don't exactly have a ton of money I have about 3000 to spend, the complete engine swap from torontoJDM is going to cost somewhere around 2450 shipped to my door or 2350 shipped to a cargo location nearby, I was thinking of finding a blown motor and rebuilding to single turbo but I don't think I
have the funds now, so I just want to ride stock for about a year and then convert to single turbo or may be in less than a year if summer job brings in good money. |
Do you still have your original long block? get that rebuilt or find a rebuilt one, they pop up all the time for decent prices. Not sure how much shipping is on the JDM ones, I imagine it cant be cheap.
I need a translator for what jetalijr said, so I can't comment. |

dat might b the better thing. jus don't blow ya money on something you don't kno what u actually gettin. at least wen you build your own u kno every part for sure whats goon in it and all details.
That might be the better thing, just don't blow your money on something that you can't be sure is what you'll actually receive. At least when you build your own you can be certain of each part that goes in. -Geoff |
That guy seems way smarter than DaleClark. Definitely take his advice.

haha you guys r too funny, I understood what he meant after reading it a few times, and no I don't have the original long block I wish I did it would make this all a lot easier.

I can't decide if it is gangsta or Waterboy Cajun. Mama said used JDM long blocks are the devil!

(I had to, sometime I really do have to read the sentences out loud to get anything out of them :/) Hey hood drifter, write in complete sentences. People take the time to format their sentences in a readable fashion. You should as well. It'll also help with people actually taking your advice seriously. |
