Airpump not working

Hi guys,

My JDM rx7 fd from 92. ( Touring) (Stock engine) has a airpump that is not working.
Before the winter i had some cut out problemens with the engine and we thought the standart ecu was bad. So replaced it other jdm ecu but the same problems.
Replaced it with a american ecu ( somebody i now had one) And the car drove fine.
But it had a lumpy idle. Now we came to the conclusion that the airpump isnt working.... The outer section is spinning but the innner section is not spinning.
When we disconnected the airpump's connector en connected it with a few wires the the battery the airpump works. And the lumpy idle was gone.

Can it have anything to do that i changed it with a american ecu?
Or can there be something else wrong?

Thanks :icon_tup:

I think the first thing I'd check is the air pump relay. IIRC it's in the box just in front of the intake near the nose of the car. If it's OK, then I'd read through the FSM for air pump operation. It will be in the emissions section.

Thanks for the reply. Will check it. :icon_tup:

Also check fuses, the fuse the airpump is on has a tendency to blow. The wiring to the connector gets brittle and shorts out, blowing the fuse. You will have a crappy idle without the airpump running.

Yes it idles like crap.....
first we thoughd it were the plugs. They where getting old anyways. But after changing them it didnt make a different.
Will take a look at the relais/fuses monday. Car is at the garage for the moment....... just replaced all the cooling hoses. Now we found out the hardpipe that cools the turbo's has a leak......
So will look soon for the fuses. I will keep you posted.:icon_tup:
Is the fuse in the fuse box near the engine or inside the car Dale?

and thanks for the advices!!

Well a little update:
Checked all the fuses and relais. There is nothing wrong.
checked if the airpump had power on the connector and it has power.

now i switched the US ecu with my own JDM ecu and the airpump works fine.... but then the same problems came back. So putted in the us ecu back. Problems gone but not a working airpump....

Update:

The car is now running on a stock europian ECU. And everything works fine

Only problem is that the ecu is borrowd and Europian ecu's are very rare.....

So i am going to save some money for an apexi i think.... :icon_tup:
