airbox manufacturing defect?

Hello,

I just bought a Rotary Extreme airbox which is basically the same as the M2 except it's polished aluminum instead of carbon fiber. I have a question about one of the pipes on the back of the box. Since I dont' have a pic of my intake, please refer to the following M2 pic which has the same pipe layout as mine:

http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/M...erIntake4d.jpg

See the pipe coming off the upper left (left as viewed in picture) hand corner of the airbox? It's a 1" outer diameter metal pipe with a 13/16" inner diameter for the length of the pipe. However, where this pipe meets my airbox, the hole in the airbox sheetmetal is only about 1/8". In otherwords, the air from the box has to pass through a 1/8" hole to get into a 13/16" pipe. Was this a manufacturing oversight on my box or should the hole in the airbox be equivalent in size to the inner diameter of the pipe attached to it (as with the factory airbox)? How is the M2's made and/or Rx7 Fashion's made?

If my question doesn't make any sense, does anyone have a picture of either an M2, Rotary Extreme, or Rx7 Fashion airbox from a non-angled rear view?

Thanks,
Tony Alvarez

Same as my M2 box.

Just give Chuck an email, he is quick to reply usually (though it is the holiday).

The upper left pipe is for the air pump discharge, so it may be smaller to act as a silencer(?). I wouldn't worry about it until you can get ahold of Chuck to verify. With the PFS intake, the discharge pipe has a resonator with small openings on it (see pic below), so it's probably fine.

The reduced size hole acts as a silencer. My original Chuck/Rx7 Fashion airbox was wide open on this outlet and noticably louder than when I later swithced to M2's box with the restricter.

its normal. chuck says you can drill it out but it will be noisier. i got the RE box. what i did was cap it off on the box and extended the ACV hose and add an aftermarket breather to it. there is no noise at all and it allows the ACV to vent completely.
