This Airbag removed or deployed???
Looking at an FD in the classifieds section. Can someone tell, from the picture, if the airbag has been deployed?
Or has it just been removed? Is this what the steering wheel looks like when an airbag has been removed? https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=1954895 Thanks |

Ummm, can't see the pix, but I know that new airbags are about $1K from the man, and I sure as hell would not buy one anywhere else.

Looks like a stock steering wheel to me (with some glare on it). What makes you think it's been deployed or removed? |
Here is a link to the picture. It's the in the 3rd post down.

Thanks Mahjik.
allrotor93 the seller, BTW seems like a stand up guy, said it has been removed. |
Ah, if he says there is no airbag, well, then there isn't. :)

Hmm, looks kind of "chiggered up" to me.
Beware.... Do you have a better picture? You can tell by looking at the vinyl "seams" in the airbag cover. It they are intact with no split or gap it is probably OK. It there is a visible gap or crack you are screwed. Remember, this is a VERY expensive OEM component and one that is frequently stolen by expert car thieves. Not to mention it can keep you from looking like the Hussein brothers in case of an accident.... |
The airbag is gone. I don't care if it's been removed. I only care if it's been deployed. How can you tell the difference?
The vinyl "seams" in the airbag cover look to be split. If an airbag is to be removed does the vinyl cover have to be split open or can it be removed from the back or something. |

The vinyl "seams" in the airbag cover look to be split. If an airbag is to be removed does the vinyl cover have to be split open or can it be removed from the back or something. When the bag deploys, however, (correct me if I'm wrong) the cover swings up on hinge like things, and makes a very hard contact with the top of the steering wheel, which could and would probably break the vinyl seams. The steering wheel in that pic seems to have some extra cover (kinda squished "T" shaped thing) on the top part of the center of the wheel. Could be covering something... |

But if you look at this link 2nd picture down, it looks different. http://www.geocities.com/select_games/mazda.htm Is this how the steering wheel looks after the bag has been deployed or has this wheel been cut open? I thought the wheel would break open right on the T design groves when deployed???? |
If you have a question, throw the car in the air and start looking around for damage either on the frame or suspension components. Check to see if there are beams or brackets that are ovbiously in better condition than either its opposite side counterpart, or if they don't match the condition of the rest of the underbody or engine bay. For example, if a headlight bracket was replaced on one side as a result of a frontal impact, it's paint may be in better condition than the opposite side, clearly an indication that it was replaced.
Just some suggestions... |
hey where is the stick, i think it is missing more than an airbag.
|
It's a rolling chassis and too far for me to go and look at it in person, which I really wish I could do because I could definitly figure out if it was in a front end collision. The engine is out, I could just hop in the engine bay and look at every inch of the frame rails.
So does anyone know if the link I just posted up a few above this, is what the steering wheel looks like after it's been deployed? |
