Airbag light Flashes 10 times, then pauses and repeats... problem?
Ok.. don't know what the problem is, but the light flashes 10 times, stops, then repeats. I figure it's a sensor problem, or wiring or something... no clue what to do.
Any ideas? Thanks -Darren- |
have you reset the 10 year clock on the srs system??
|
I coulde be wrong but it sounds like its throwing a code. Maybe you should see if you can find a list of SRS codes and see what 10 is.
|
yeah it's a code, when my tire rubbed through my fender well it cut the air bag wires and now my car beeps 5 times 5 times. seems like I read somthing on the sun visor or manual about how many beeps and how many times to diagnose it.
|
Take a look at the wiring manual for the problem. Yes that is a code! I'd look for you but I don't have it on hand. You can download an electrical diagam from this site.
|
Yeah my turbo melted my wires, but i re-spliced them and cut the burnt ones. Dunno what it is now... car works, it's just annoying, lol.
|
10 flashes is a blown fuse in the diagnstic module. I dont think that unit is serviceable, and you'll need to find the short.

Hrmm, "Diagnostic Module" <-- pretty general
What's this? or more specifically... where is this? I've never had to deal with one =P |
The Diagnostic Module for the air bag is a black box under the dash on the drivers side with a big yellow sticker on it.

I've been dealing with 3 flashes, and all signs are now pointing to my air bag diagnostic module being the problem.
Your 10 flashes indicates a blown system down fuse in the diag module. The system down Fuse is not a conventional removable fuse, it's basically a resistor soldered to the circuit board. Even if you took it somewhere to have the fuse replaced, until you figure out why it blew more than likely It'll just blow again. The fuse blows when it senses one of the "D sensors" (crash Sensors) has a short or different resistance than normal. If you have a multimeter you can check the sensors and wiring to see where the problem lies. I uploaded the pages from the workshop manual that list the checking procedure. EDIT: I forgot to mention you must disconnect the negative battery wire before testing any component in the SRS system. Also after disconnecting the battery its a good Idea to disconnect the Air bag clock spring connectors.... The Orange and Blue wiring connectors right underneath the steering wheel. |
it blew because my turbo melted the wires and the pos and negative crossed, lol
thanks for the info, maybe i can just replace the whole thing?> |
whats the d-sensor? mine beeps 5 times 5 times.

5 flashes indicates a damaged D sensor or short in the wiring Harness. I don't know if you have the service manual or not but I attached the service procedure for 5 flashes. And a scan of the location of the D sensors. Good Luck |
Just an update, I was able to repair my Air bag diagnostic module. I was getting 3 flashes and basically found that the diagnostic module was at fault. I took the module out of the car and opened it up. After a close visual inspection, I found that one of the main capacitors had scorched the board and was bad.
It cost me $2.25 plus shipping for the capacitor, and took me about 10mins to fix. Sure beats the hell out of $750 for a new module from the dealership. And I couldn't even find a used one for a 94'. Needless to say I'm pretty happy. No more Frickin flashing light. |
Fritz has them for $50 shipped =P
Good call, I should do that with mine too! |
it means its gonna blow up in your face one day when youre driving and youre not gonna know what to do!
|
I had a similar problem, could not figure out what the problem was. Then the horn and the cruise control went out - clockspring in the steering wheel! Bought one from Fritz, solved the problem.

holy crap this explains why my cruise control has been going on and off randomly... i bet this would also explain why the airbasg light is flashing; something is shorted in the clock spring and the airbag connection isnt making it down to the other end of the harness... ahh could this cause my 5 flashes though? (5 indicates a bad crash sensor in the front) |
anyone have any info on this?
