Air Recirculation button..??
Does anyone ever use the Air recirculation???
And if the AIR Recirculation is USED.. How does that effect the engine?? (FD3S) I would assume its draining power. some how. And info on this would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks again |
I use it with the AC, and when I drive in a town that smells (keeps the outside air outside!). It doesn't drain power (I don't think) in any way. It just closes the outside vent from fresh air. Then the cabin air is just, well...recycled. Help me if I'm wrong...

Yep...kinda,
In effect it only recycles air already within the cabin and therefore keeps your interior air cooler by not allowing hot air into the car (and vice-versa in winter time). You will see a noticeable difference in temperature of ac with it on or off. It's also good to have on when you driving behind another 7 with no cat;) GEB |
theres a little flapper door that blocks off the out side air vent while opening the blower to the insdie

Yep, I use it all the time to help heat or cool off the car faster. The only downside is you don't want to leave it in re-circ mode for a really long time (such as on a long drive) as the air will get pretty stale in there. I'm sure you still get some fresh air through the vent flap and window seals but there's nothing like a little CO poisoning to reduce your attention span.

The only performance drawback you might see by leaving recirculate off is higher coolant temps, and its only under certain conditions. With recirculate off, you're pulling heat from the outside air via the evaporator, and dumping it out via the condenser, which is directly in front of the radiator...in recirculate mode you're still dumping heat out there, just not as much. If its hotter than hell outside, then it really won't matter, since you'll be running the compressor constantly either way.
