air intake temps....headlight cover....
 

did anyone notice a difference in intake temps when they went from the regular headlight cover to a vented headlight cover? I just picked up a cwest (for the look as well as functionality) and was just wondering if anyone saw a difference. thanks.

no noticeable for me.. Sold it a while ago. G

the hood itself actually has a plastic/rubber liner in the front behind the headlight area to prevent rain from trickling behind the headlight into the engine bay. So you'd have to remove that, but the openings on the headlight lid covers are so small in comparison, that it's just an asthetic mod really.

Now a complete vented headlight kit, that's a different story :)

and i was gonna buy one of them aswell,,,if its just gonna catch air and act like a small parachute then there's no point LOL

well if you trimmed the back of the cover, and the little flap behind the headlight, it would flow air right into the engine bay....i realize that the way it sits the way it comes it might not flow very well, but with about 5 minutes with a dremel should open it up nicely.

Keep in mind the way the frame, and the back of the actual headlight and pop-up mechanism is as well. there are some things that jut out here and there (wires to the lights, etc), that would disrupt and deflect the airflow. You'd have to make a deducated air channel of sorts. Plus, the hole in itself, it pretty small. about the width of 4 of my fingers, and the actual opening is pretty slim too. I'd think the air itself would dissapate after going through the guided channel, and into the enginbay itself.

If it were a more worthwhile method to reduce unhood temps, i'm sure more people would have them. It's really a moot point, in my honest opinion, bc of the size of the opening. However, you can definitely give it a go :)

If you'd like to hack up your car and make some ghetto ducting to bring a whiff of cold air to your intake, go for it. IMHO, don't bother. If you really want to do something functional, look into a duct pulling air from between the radiator and the frame rail - even then, I seriously doubt you'll see mad horsepower yo from the end result.

as said in my first post, i bought it for looks as well....not just the 1000 hp increase.....just was wondering how "functional" it was...thats all.

Think of it this way: even if you created a duct and sealed it to ensure that every bit of air from the headlight vent is forced into your intake, the hole is so incredibly small compared to the size of the intake filter that it's not going to do much.
