Air condition problem
 

Hi experts. Need some help.

After I turn on the airconditioner (while the car is in motion for at least 10mins), the car automatically stalls.

Seems odd. What can be the cause?

Stock fans?

Could be a problem with the Electrical Load Unit (ELU) not sending signals to the PCME. If working correctly, when the A/C compressor cycles on, the idle speed should rise from 720 rpm to about 1000 rpm. When it goes off, the idle speed should drop down again. If you are not seeing that happen, the ELU or wiring from it might be bad. It's also possible that your idle speed is set too low. Do you know how to set it correctly?

Are you running the stock ECU?
Mine stalls bc i never tuned with it when i got Steve Kan to tune

I only just bought the car. According to the previous owner, the fan and ECU are both stock.

So, to summarise, the possible cause can be:

1) Electrical load unit/ wiring is stuffed up

2) Idle speed too low. How do you reset it ?

I'll ask my mechanic to look into these.

Any other diagnosis ?

The procedure requires your engine to be at full operating temperature, with all electrical accessories OFF. This includes the A/C, lights, audio system, brake lights, HVAC fan, etc. If the radiator fan is cycling on and off, wait for it to be off while adjusting and while checking the adjustment.

Open the Diagnostic Connector under the hood. Under the cover is a label identifying the terminals by name. You are looking for the "TEN" and "GND" terminals. Using an electrical jumper wire or a paper clip, jumper those two terminals together. Start the engine and let it idle. The adjustment is made with a flat-blade screwdriver of just the right length, and the screw to be adjusted is on the lower right corner of the throttle body, here. Clockwise lowers the speed, CCW increases it.

What you are shooting for is an idle speed that is the same whether the jumper is in or out.

That gives the PCME (ECU) its maximum control range to compensate for changes in engine loading. The ideal rpm is "known" by the PCME to be about 720 rpm for a manual transmission car. I don't know the desired speed for the auto tranny setup, but the PCME knows that speed too. I presume an auto tranny should be in "Park" for the procedure, but don't know for sure.

The jumper can be connected and disconnected while the engine is idling, with no bad effects. But give a few seconds after making each change to let the idle speed settle.

Attached below is the Diagnostic Connector Label diagram. (Notes are mine; there are a few errors in the notes, but the diagram is correct.)

SAME PROBLEM in a customers car.... had to remap the ecu to handle the overload the ac gives off.... You want to fix that as soon as possible... when driving and the car stalls you cannot brake.... someone here wrecked there car when that happened

Check your Idle Air Controller.. if you still have one. Usually the culprit.
