How is the proper procedure for bleeding air in the cooling system?

well, the easiest way to do it is to remove the coolant hose that goes to your throttle body, remove your radiator cap & fill away. You should be able to get just about all of it in there... take a couple trips around the neighborhood, come back, park, cool down, and top off.

If you don't want to remove the coolant hose to the throttle body, the long ardous way to go about bleeding the system is to fill at the filler neck (the radiator cap) until full... wait a second, watch to see if the level goes down. If it does, continue filliing (go slowly). repeat.
Once the level no longer goes down, start up the car & remain parked. Turn the heater all the way up and turn on the fan. Wait for heat to start coming out of the vents (or your low coolant buzzer goes off) - this will mean your thermostat opened and you got some coolant flowing. Turn the car off and wait for it to cool. start over. repeat until the level is the same before and after you run the heater. The process can take hours. When you're all done, take a quick trip around the neighborhood, park, cool and top off.

For either method, once complete, top off the overflow tank as well.... Should be up to at least the bottom mark. If you fill it too full, no worries, it will just spill all over the ground once your car heats up and kill all pets that may try to drink it.

tip1: make sure to mix coolant & water... approx 35% coolant, 65% water. add more coolant for colder climates.

tip2: use only distilled water

tip3: make sure that you don't mix coolant flavors. In other words, if you're using the green stuff, continue to use the green stuff (for topping off). Don't mix pink and green. If you're going to change flavors, flush the system completely.
