Aftermarket intake fake-out?

Well, since I recently underwent the torture of having to go and get my FD smogged, I've begun to think about what I can do to my future mods to make them look like they're not aftermarket. I plan to get an intake at some point, and I'd like to get something that I might be able to slap a Mazda emblem on to make it look less conspicuous...anyone ever do this? I figure one of the box type intakes would be the obvious choice, but carbon fiber isn't something that easily goes unnoticed.

Any hints? What about getting CARB stickers for them? I dunno anything about how the smog shops will verify the CARB # on the stickers for what should be in the car, but if they dont' do it, then it should be as simple as getting the sticker and slapping it under the hood, right?

Just mod the stock intake - looks totally stock unless you take the top off

I would think the airbox would be a relatively easy mod to undo. How much time is involved in swapping out an M2 airbox for the stock one? You only have to smog every two years. Besides, I know you got unlucky, but most places won't recognize mods like a downpipe.

how bout this...you find a shop that will hook you up, or have someone from the Bay Area on this forum tell you where you can get hooked up, and do whatever you want to the car.

or you could save your stock parts and slap them back on every two years.

it bugs me when people limit the fun they could have with their car modification wise because of the emissions laws.

screw getting stock looking parts. there are shops around here you can take it to that don't mind the mods as long as it passes the sniffer. get whatever mods you want. take care of smog when it comes along plenty of people do :)

I'm with JoeD.

Screw the smog nazis here in Cali.

That being said, can someone PM me a name of a sympathetic smog shop in the South Bay?

I could use some SB smog info also. I live in the central valley but work in the SB. I going to need to get my Washington car smogged so I can register it for CA (only after two years here ;-) ).
