Afraid to ask but oil inside intake
 

Alright, so I am getting ready to do my rad., dp, and replace my couplers w/ silicone, and I had to take apart just about all that bolted on. When I took off my intake pipes going from my y-pipe to my smic they were clean inside. When i took off the intake pipes going from my smic to my TB there was what looked like oil inside.

I then took out my smic and when i looked inside the top portion I could se oil. when i turned it upside down some oil poured out. uhhhhh is this bad? how does oil get in there? could it be coming out of my intake manifold, through my throtle body, through my intake pipes, and into my smic?

help its getting me even more worried now that im writing about it.

some is normail. that said you would need to see normal to judge it. does it smoke?

ehh no smoke but sometimes smells like burning. i think the burning smell is goming from my turbos though. it has smoked in the past from the turbo side.

when i said there was oil and that it poured out, it wasn't a lot.

how the hell does oil get in there though?

Depends how much oil you got, when I turn my IC upside down, there are about 10 inches in diameter of oil puddle coming out. But I know my second turbo is leaking, When I did dino 2 years ago, there were oil coming out from the stock blowoff from the second turbo. So I had to connect a pipe from the blow off and pointed to the ground to drain the oil.

I have oil on both side of the IC.

^ kind of weird but it makes me feel a little better.

I was kind of expecting oil on my pipes going from my turbos to my IC, but oil on the other pipes?!?!

again how does oil get on that side?

some of the blowby oil is used to lube the turbos. its totally normal to have some oil in your intake pipping. take a pic of how much oil came out

your turbos are lubed by oil feed and return lines. there are seals that keep them from flowing into the actual exhaust and compressor wheels. you need to check your seals and and since u say u smell something burning from your turbo you most likely do have a leaking turbo. so when the oil flows into your compressor wheel itll throw wutever it gets through your charge pipes/smic/tb/ic. You might want to consider buying an oil catch can AFTER you check and if necessary rebuild the turbos. The oil catch can will really help.

Oil in the Turbo snail/Compressor Housing, Y-Pipe, Compressor Tube and all connections that lead to the IC should tell you there is a probable leak associated with a bad Plate Seal and/or O-Ring located in the Compressor side of the Bearing Housing.

do people with single turbo conversions have this same "problem"

okay, thanks for your support so far. but i dont think my turbo smell is coming from "bad turbos" rather a bad oil feed line. The oil is not on the turbo side. its on the TB side of the IC.

Im sure the oil in my IC pipe is not coming from my turbo side. if it was it would have to chanel from my turbos throught the y-pipe THROUGH the IC then out to my TB side intake pipes. Is this what you guys are suggesting.

My turbo side intake pipes are dry. no oil! at the most i have some oil spitting out of my greddy bov, which i pressume is somewhat normal.

again its in my throtle body side of the intake pipes.

It's likely the oil is being blown there from the leaking turbo, or one of the lines the turbo is connected to:

[intake / air filter] >> [turbo air intake] >> [turbo compressed air output] (oil is introduced here somewhere, maybe leaky seals or lines) >> [intercooler] >> [pipe where you're seeing oil] >> [throttle body]>> [UIM]

How many miles on your turbos ? Ive got the same problem except I get allot of oil in my intake, so much it smokes out my exhaust somtimes. My turbos have 102k mi though and Im going single this coming winter so I just gave to remember to pull my FMIC off and clean it out when I do the conversion. The only place the oil can come from is the turbos so it IS blowing right through the Y-Pipe and SMIC and being dropped off at your TB it sounds like, kind of shows how well the SMIC works... Some is normal, many miles but still good turbos and "normal" will staart to ad to up to more than expected however.

There's a hose that's connected to the back your Compression Tube (elbow), I think it works in conjunction with the AWS system, anyway, it has a tendency of blowing a fine mist of oil during AWS. Within time, this oil mist will accumulate and create small oil puddles in the large IC hose and Compression Tube.

My AWS is on a breather. its not connected to my elbow.
my turbos got 77k mi on them.
How in the heck does oil get through my y-pipe and the bottom of my IC and only collect oil on the TB side of the IC. You would figure more oil would collect on the turbo side and at the bottom of the IC rather than the top of the IC and the TB side.

Do you have an aftermarket BOV welded to your large IC pipe??

nope its on the turbo side still.

i know it need to be moved, but one thing at a time =)
