Advise please i am new...
 

Hi All

I have been brwosing your forum and have found it to be very very informative.

But i am a complete novice when it comes to turbo engines and rotarys in particular. I have always been an NA man all the way. I had a Type R Integra and sold it got this beautifule S6 1993 FD RX7.

However, i have a few questions i must ask as i am quite worried after reading a couple of your posts.

My Mods are as follows:
Intercooler in the engine bay not the standard one
Pod filter
Turbo back HKS super dragger exhaust.

My question is this. My car drives well but upon occasion it pucks a little whilst driving and acceleration is not smooth it kinda accelerates then misses alitlle acellerates then takes off spurts alitlle and accelerates again.

SO what i am trying to say is the accelleration is not smooth. I have taken it to the mechanic he reckons its fins and there is nothing wrong. He dyno tuned it pulling in 230 Hp at the rears wheels.

I feel this could be a faulty wastegate or the actuator could be sticking..... i don't know though i am just guessing??

I also sometimes get backfire .... it sounds like this pop, pop, pop, pop. It happens when i back off the accelerator in any gear. It only does this occasionally but when it does it it goes crazy. Its like this first gear launch/drive, second gear accellerate back off accellerator pop, pop, pop, pop change to third...

What could it be is it normal??

Also another thing how do i know if the engine is pinging ?? Is it the same noise as a piston engine (clackik, clackik cling) or does it differ?

The guy at the tuning shop reckons a aftermarket ECU should fix the problem and is trying to sell me a Microtech but if indeed a computer is gonna fix the problem i would rather a PWFC.... if indeed a new ecu will fix the problem.

Your help with these issues would be highly appreciated....

Oh another thing the engine was rebuilt about 10000ks ago with standard seals. But this occasional "dodgy" acceleration is really worrying me. It could be minor or maybe normal i don't know.

An aftermarket ECU may fix your hesitation problems. However, there are other (cheaper) solutions you might look into first like grounding for one:

You might also check your spark plug wires.

As for the backfiring on deceleration, that's fairly common on these cars.

i recommend you do a few searches here on the various problems to better understand what the individual causes could be. sounds like you have a few issues that need to be addressed.

you should not hear anything that sounds like a ping. if you do, back off the throttle. it doesn't take much at all to blow a rotary and if its gonna happen to anyone, its gonna happen to the new guys.

also check the regional forums for a mechanic in your area. there are a few aussie members on here that can help you out. most mechanics don't know much about rotaries and often mis-diagnose these cars.

Do a search on 3000 Rpm Hesitation, your mechanic might be right, but before you drop $1000+ on PFC do a couple of things suggested in the threads regarding 3000rpm hesitation... Mostly it's a ground / injector problem that you can fix on the ecu or on the grounds... but neither has worked for everybody identically, but it's common, normal... weather it's hurting the car ?? Who knows... Putting Low octane gas in will hurt you sooner or later.. always use premium gas...
