Advice on oil
 

Hi there, great forum!

Forgive me for jumping straight in and asking a question.

Bought my FD3 last weekend from an importer in the UK, it's a '92 Auto, very good condition, looks like it's been serviced regularly as it has all the service stickers from Japan.

Anyway, I'm looking to do an oil and filter change tomorrow, together with flushing the coolant.

What sort of oil would you use? Fully Synthetic 5w-40 or Semi Synthetic 10w-40?

Of everything Ive used, Royal Purple 20w50 has been my favorite by far. Im not sure if you get that stuff overseas though.


If you go synthetic, make sure you find one that doesnt ash.

Maybe I should stick with 10w-40, semi?

Although there will surely be all sorts of suggestions, a lot of people here use Mobil 1 without any issues, which I'm sure is available in the UK. The subject has been discussed countless times, here are just a few...

hahaha Yes another oil thread. Spoke to a guy at http://www.wgtautodevelopments.co.uk/ today and he recommended using 10w-40 non-synthetic.

Bad recommendation. 10w40 has too many additives, at least that's what I've always heard.

Given your UK weather, I would run 10w30 -- you can read Kento's links to decide if you want to run synthetic or not.
