Adjusting sunroof motor

1 Attachment(s)
Is anyone familiar with making this adjustment? What I really want to know is how much and what portion of the headliner has to be loose or removed in order to reach the motor assembly?

Why do I care? At times my sunroof seems to stall while trying to lift up. A slight push is all that's required to get it moving. Never any problems opening further or closing. Tracks are clean and greased.

It's my read of the FWM is that you can adjust the torque setting of the lift-motor assembly, and I think that would allow me to slightly tighten this clutch to resolve this issue.

I also have the same problem, but like he says only a slight push on the sunroof and all works well. I have not been too concerned. If it won't close I have the tool to close or open in glove compartment.

When you first open the roof it's supposed to stop at a crack opening, then you push the button again to open the whole way.

Zyon13B, yes your right. But my problem occurs before that.

About 1/3 the time my sunroof only moves up maybe 1/8 of an inch from its fully closed position, and stalls there unless I give it a gentle push. After that it continues up to the normal first stop position. A second press of the up-button and it fully opens; just like you said. And I never have any issue closing.

I've had this problem once, but I just have the roof a gentle nudge and it opened fine. Hasn't happened again. If it does, I'll look into doing this adjustment maybe.

Section8, that's the way mine started, too. Got worse over about a year or so.

do you guys notice it occurs more after a rain or car wash?

FDjunkie 09-15-04 08:32 PM

tobecontinued, I've not noticed any difference after rain or a car wash, but maybe I just didn't pay enough attention at those times. Does this seem to make a difference on your car?

Sunroof adjustment

I know I am reviving an old thread but after searching it looks as though there is not much on this subject.

My sunroof needs a little push too. I would like to adjust it but unsure of how much is involved in removing the headliner. I don't want to jack it up and not be able to put it back as it should be. Also, not sure if this adjustment would fix the problem or if there is another fix. Thanks

just lube your seals. lol

i have this problem when i don't use the sunroof for a while so the seals tend to bind a bit. didn't know it was adjustable, but it doesn't bother me enough to dive in there to fix it. thanks for the info though :)

same issue here. Requires a little push sometimes

You mean the Sun roof seal is sticking to the roof?

well on mine its the friction/grippiness of the seals that seems to cause the occasional hitch when the sunroof is trying to start its pop-up. i have the glass moonroof though, the seals on it are more plush so maybe its just something to do with that

I've been giving mine a little bump since the day I bought the car. :)
