adding restrictor plates...

hey guys, im about to add some restrictor plates so i can add the MP again. i want the extra power but last time i tried i was spiking like crazy. spiked even when i took both pills out(didnt know which was transition and which was pressure build up, okay which is which guys:)). im looking at adding a plate, maybe two. bought a piece of stainless steel sheet at OSH and im going to trace out my gasket. then im going to drill the hole about an inch smaller then the exhaust piping diameter. does anyone know if this will make a difference? also should i change my pills out too. if this sorta works id been keen to going to a profec B to control boost even further. what do you guys think about this?

Instead of doing all that why don't you take the extra time and port your wastegate it's a lot easier and cheaper to do that than spike and blow your motor.

well i dont want to take the turbos out of the car, then port 80K mile turbos. just seems silly to me. if i do all that i would opt for a single or BNR twins. at this time i dont have money for either so its not an option. this is significantly less time consuming and id rather not mess with all the EG mumbo jumbo. i havent familiarized myself with it that much yet. i do have a PFC that is supposed to control the boost, but its not happening. thanks for the link mahjik. i found that one last time i posted about this. you are always helpful.

i used a gasket that came with my MP to make a new outline. i have about a 1/2 inch size decrease in diameter between the gasket and the restrictor plate? do you think that 1/2 inch is good enough. i know i will get the answer for sure in about an hour, just checking on opinions

I used a diameter about 1" smaller than the OD of the MP. Worked great!

just start off small and keep enlarging it till you get the boost you like, 1/2 inch hole to start is a good option since i doubt youll get over 4psi boost on it hehe (thats what i got)

good luck and when you enlarge it, go slowly! better to be safe then sorry!

thanks for the info. i might be doing that too. something just tells me that this isnt going to work well. oh well, trial and error

it worked. i get a decent boost of 10 lbs while its set at 10 now. i get a slight creep up to maybe 11-11 and a half, but ill live with that. 12 lbs setting it stays below 13 lbs. PFC reads on the money, but we all know how accurate that is. its so lively now. love the MP:). i still might get larger pills to just be on the SAFER side, or opt for a better boost controller. thanks forum peeps about the info on restrictor plates. home made and under 10 bucks.

Just curious

What size diameter hole did you go with? In your first post you said you wanted to control spiking, but in your last post you said it fixed creep. I take it you're not spiking anymore either?

sweet, another fd that did not pop due to over boost!

im also intrested in what size hole you finnaly ended up with

suprfast 02-23-03 02:16 AM

well let me clear all this up. im controlling the creeping compared to what it was. i used to creep up to 13-14 lbs with 10lbs being my preset. who knew what it would have gone to since i would always let off around 6500 rpms. the MP had pretty close to 3" ID. the gasket that i had with the MP had about 2.75" ID(go figure, i would think it should have been same ID). i ended up making a restrictor plate out of SS sheet metal. the ID for my restrictor plate was approx. 2.25" ID. what questions did i miss?
kris
oh yeah, it still has spiking issues. this is why i might change out the pills to something just a tad larger. it spikes maybe one pound, but im running a rich program(i hope). it was set up with an intercooler and i dont have one, yet
kris(again)
