ACV Questions
I've been meaning to take off the silencer and vent the stock ACV into the air, but I'm not sure about some things...
Now.. http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...D_/th_ACV1.jpg Is the silencer, right? So All I have to do is remove it? Then what about this wire here? http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...D_/th_ACV2.jpg Does that go too, or what do I do with it? What exactly does it do? http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...D_/th_ACV3.jpg Finally, the wire connects to the UIM (i think?) what do I do to where it connects? Should I plug it some how, or can I just leave it? Thanks in advance. |
Looks like the previous owner replaced the stock ABV with an aftermarket unit- the "silencer" you circled in the first picture. That "wire" is the vacuum tube that actuates it

I see... So removing it would probably serve the same purpose as venting it into the atmosphere I'm guessing? But I suppose I should just leave it if it has already been modified. Doesn't make the sound though... =(

I think you're confused on a few points.
First, what is circled is an aftermarket blow-off valve. Not sure what kind it is. It does appear to be hooked up properly. "ACV" is air control valve, it's under the upper intake manifold and ducts the air from the air pump. The blowoff valve has nothing to do with the ACV - just clearing that up. The car has to have a blowoff valve (or Mazda's name, ABV/air bypass valve). Without it you can cause long-term damage to the turbos. If that BOV is quiet, it might be hooked up back into the stock airbox. If that's the case, you can safely open-air vent it, just find a cap for the nipple on the airbox. Dale |
Oh.. Okay, thanks for clearing things up.

Another question: If I'm right (which i sorta doubt =( ) then the red arrow points to where the stock ACV is vented into the airbox? On my it's capped because theres a BOV right? So the blue arrow is pointing to the nut which im assuming is the one that controls the amount of air that leaves it? as in it adjust the loudness? |
Anyone?

Stupid question, maybe, but would it be safe to vent the charge relief valve to the engine bay too? If I remember right, the CRV connects to the airbox right above the ABV and performs a similar function -- venting air when under sufficient pressure. But his is still attached to the airbox and I can't seem to find reference of removing it
|
Yeah... does any 1 have anything similar to this? haha I've tried to figure this thing out, but I have had no luck.. >.< I don't wanna play with the nut too much, I dont wanna accidentally break something. Any one with any help? =(

I still haven't figured out where this thing vents and how it does.... >.<
|
So i've finally found out what kind of BOV I have... *facewall* Apparently it's a Prof Sheepdog (after a quick search on google) Well, now I know what brand it is, I was wondering about some specs? Anybody able to give me some info on this? I've tried searching both here and google, but not much shows up, or what shows up is japanese... >.<
