Actuator (turbo Precontrol)
 
I have a fresh engine with rebuilt turbos. The engine is stock rebuild nothing special. The engine has less than 2500 miles on it. The question I have is the Actuator for the turbo precontol is dripping oil out of the small hole. Anyone have any idea why this would happen? Any help for the cause of this would be very nice. The engine is in stock configuration.

Actuators have nothing to do with the oil system,,,, the oil must be comming from some where esle,,, maybe you can post a picture so we can get a good look at where exactly you can see the oil

Somehow oil got in there and it's still dripping out.

Spray some brake cleaner in there and let it drain, that should clean it out. BTW, this is on the outside of the sealed chamber.

Test the actuator by applying pressure to the nipples and be certain there is no leakage and that it moves smoothly. If the turbos were blowing a bunch of oil AND they had a leak in the actuator, it's possible the blowby oil would collect in the actuator, thru the leank, and dribble out that drain hole.

when I removed the turbos I looked for any oil leaks. There were none from seals or oil liness. It has to come from the turbo housing. I have more pictures if that would help

Possible there was oil in the vacuum lines and it just gravitated down into the actuator ? ? ? Have you found any oil in any of other vacuum lines or acutuators ? ? ?

Yeah that looks like it's coming from the front compressor inlet elbow or something else nearby. A new gasket should fix it, although it's not an urgent thing.

This is off a fresh rebuild. New gaskets were used all the way around. When I took off the turbos checked for gasket issues none were observed. I checked the vac lines clear and clean. I check the turbo pressure side for oil. None was observed. The oil "looked like it was coming off the front turbo where the c-clip is. I am not sure that is possible. Someday I would like to take one apart. Anyone taken the turbos apart if so can you get an oil leak from the housing? :wallbash:

Yeah that pic suggest its actually coming from that drain hole. I have no suggestions. Good luck.

From my experience with oil leaks on this car, it is very very hard to actually find where it is coming from just by looking at the under side of the turbos.

I had oil on the underside of the engine, turbos, etc. since I got the car. At first I thought it was the front seal then found out the guy that had the car replaced that so that was out, also thought at one point the oil pan was leaking, but again he replaced that gasket. So I thought maybe its the crank case vent, but that line was dry as a bone even after my track days. It ended up being the oil metering nozzles causing oil to be sucked back in front of the primary turbo and it was leaking out the elbow onto everything on the passenger side of the engine.

But I would guess yours is from the vacuum lines somewhere dumping alittle into the actuators. I would take the lines to the actuators off and see if they have oil in them before I started looking at other stuff. That should narrow it down to a more specific area.

I did as you have suggested. The Vac lines are dry. I took the turbos off. Only place where oil was seen is as shown with the pictures. I will take a close look around to make sure it is not the meter nozzles. Had not ever thought about the nozzles will get back to you with more information.

I would also check the nearby oil lines that are sealed with copper crush washers: the OMP lines and turbo oil lines.

The nozzels are clean. the washers are/were new. No leaks there. I think it has got to be off the front cartage.

- i have smoke coming from the engine bay (smells like oil) after boost run and normal driving..boost runs cause it occur faster

- slow drip when the car is running from oil pan...no leak when car is not running

- chekc under the car numerous times....MANY MANY times...cleaned the pan each time and engine each time with brake cleaner...look like majority of oil is on lower passenger side of engine...looks like it could be the pan, theres oil on

pan, actuator, and always a drip hanging on the actuator vac line...there is never any oil leakage or drips on the visible turbo oil lines

- where do i look for the oil injection lines and nozzles? where are these located...what do i have to take apart to get to them?
