AC cyclically ON and OFF?

I thought it was normal, but after reading some posts related to Power FC and AC I think now it is not:
my AC ALWAYS cyclically turned on and off in all 4 settings of the blower, 100% sure in the first two, not in 3 and 4 'cause I seldom use them
anyway, it has a fixed period,
but it stays fixed on if I engage the air recycle switch
May this be a spec of the European version?
or just a problem in my AC?

I would say this is more of a valve problem...I have curently a stock ECU, and it is a valve that stick sometimes...I will be getting the exact part number within a few days and will let you know.

Sounds like your a/c charge is high or low. The system has pressure switches that will shut the compressor off if the pressures are out of whack. Have you checked the a/c with pressure gauges? I bet you're only a little low on freon.

CapitanCombo 04-13-04 07:29 AM

Yes could it be what you both say
but it is really strange
I can measure the time of on/off and will let you know, it is strange that if I turn on the recycle it stays on...

captain combo post man. i couldnt find anything in my searches so i just kinda live with it. problem is that my pfc will start to adjust to the on/off and makes my cars rev go up and down also...really annoying. so free bump because i want to fix this on my car also. i am going to go check my freon levels later also.

CapitanCombo 04-13-04 09:55 AM

I'd like to specify that i do not have a power FC
Ecu is stock

I agree with Damon. When I had my a/c recharged, it cycled on/off. After searching here, I found that this happens when the a/c system is charged with too much freon. Apparently there are a few different a/c systems that have different capcities of freon throughout the model line. In 93 there were 2 or 3 different compressors alone.

Its the voltage problem seen by PFC. Look at post by zerobanger in the PFC forum.

Also the on/off switch is called by the thermoswitch in the blower, behind glove box. If its cold enough, then it will let the AC off, vice versa.

reza,
that isnt causing my problem because i had that replaced with a new one. also i got lucky with my pfc because all my ac settings work. or rather i should say worked. my evaporator core went bad so i had it replaced along with the thermoswitch and changed to r134 from my old r12 setup. worked great before the swap and worked well for a few months afterwards. then the problem became apartant. didnt metter to me though since it was a nice cool winter here in florida. so now that summer is here i want to get it working again. my ac will turn on/off about every 2-3 seconds.

Ok
I have the part number
FD0461J14
This is an A/C valve (Evaporator?) located behind the dash
Do you know guys where I can find this
Thanks

Someone found a solution.

Your problem is quite common. It was originally thoguht that only R1s had problemw with Power FC's and A/C's.

On my particular car A/C works on 1 and 2, almost never on 3, and on 4 it is also cyclically on/off as you discribe. However my A/C light it ALWAYS on, i only know that the a/c is continually switching on/off because off the a/c readout in the power fc menu.
