AC compressor help

I just picked up a bone stock FD and its my first time dealing with on that is completely stock:nod: the compressor does not kick when i turn the ac on but the air pump does to compensate for the extra emissions. but when i run direct power to the compressor it kicks, so i guess my question is should i look at the power wire coming for the harness or is my compressor shot? while i dont need AC at the moment ( the weather has allowed for windows/sunroof) its something i would like to have for the remaining hot days of the summer.

There is a detailed AC diagnostic procedure in the Body Electrical Troubleshooting manual, which can be found in the stickies.

However, it is most likely that you are low in refrigerant. A low pressure switch will stop the compressor from engaging when there is insufficient pressure in the system.

it may be low on refrigerant, these systems have a pressure sensor where if it is too low the compressor will not engage

Don't run your compressor more than a few seconds with a jumper wire. It could very well ruin the compressor if you have little/no refrigerant in the system to circulate the oil.

the direct power was only supplied for a few seconds.
