Ac compressor?

whats the thing under my power steering pump, its the AC compressor isnt it? how many hours should i budget to change and what else should i need to do the job?

anything to be worried about? (i.e spraying my eyes with refrigerant lol)

BobfisH Jul 11, 2005 03:05 AM

and also while im there, is there any way to tell if my system has been converted from R12 to R134a?

Spirit_Rotary_7 Jul 11, 2005 03:14 AM

Correct, it is the AC compressor. Inhaling the refrigerant would be bad as well. ;)

BobfisH Jul 11, 2005 03:23 AM

how long would it take to change?

Goose Jul 11, 2005 03:32 AM

More importantly, you do have the kit to regas it?

BobfisH Jul 11, 2005 03:44 AM

no goose that is not more important and no i dont have the kit, i do what 99.9% of the rest of the population do and take it to an aircon specialist to regas it. Just because im changing the compressor doesnt mean that i have to regas it too, ill get someone else to do it!!!!

Well, sorry to cause offence, but when you come on here asking "which pump's the AC pump" it may appear to some that you:

a) Don't know what you're doing

b) Can't read the freely available factory service manuals

c) Can't work it out just by looking at the pumps

d) Can't search the existing threads

I don't wish to beat people down, put I know it pisses people off if you post random threads that show you haven't even tried to work out the problem yourself.

thats true goose i suppose, dont wanna turn this into a bitch war lol!

I did originally post though just to CHECK it was the one i thought it was if you look...

Goose Jul 11, 2005 05:40 AM

Yep, easy to get the wrong end of the stick. Apologies.

Well, I would take it to the place you plan to have "regas" the system and have them remove and store the old refrigerant to reuse once you change the compressor. It would be a lot less expensive and you wouldn't be causing damage to the ozone layer by venting it to the atmosphere.
