I just started my search for a 3rd gen but RP has always been helpful with my questions on the 2nd gen that I have.

ND4TT 10-02-01 05:45 PM

Thanks dude, anyone else?

CPA 10-02-01 05:50 PM

I live in the Dallas area and would not take my car to any other place. Rotary Performance has always done a good job and they always fix the problem. In fact, I am bringing my car to them Wednesday for a small coolant leak. They only have a couple days wait to get your car in right now. During the summer, the wait to get your car in can be a couple weeks if you are wanting an upgrade or service that you can do without for a couple of weeks. A local Mazda dealer screwed something up and Rotary Performance fixed it and knew what the problem was before I even took it in. I have had upgrades done by them and other work and they have always tried to save me money. They even work with my warrenty. There is a dealer in North Dallas off of Central Expressway that sells a lot of FD's and he to would only recomend that you bring your car to them.

Extremely nice folks. I lost a bolt for my RP pulley, and Ari sent me one free (actually plus a couple extra spares too) - shipping and all.

ND4TT 10-02-01 06:18 PM

Thanks a lot dudes!

Mach2 10-02-01 07:56 PM

I've purcased lots of things from them and their products are top notch, but the best part is the customer support. The staff is very courteous and Cris is a pro when it comes to over the phone diagnostics. He's always available to help out, and when he isn't you can just leave a message and he calls you. Very professional shop!!

spyfish007 10-02-01 08:24 PM

RP is a really good shop. They have been doing rotary engines and this shop since they were in high school, (well over 10 years ago) and they have owned every generation of RX-7. Chris and Ari own the shop and Steve Kan is always there. You have some serious rotary knowledge hanging around that place. They got into drag racing because Ari can't autocross ... too many cones for him! Some people complain about them having high prices (especially for labor) but they are that good. The guy above was right when he said they have month long waits over the summer because so many people take their car there. I've lived in DFW before and I took my car there. If I had something come up now that I couldn't do myself I would get the car back to them and I'm in TN now so that is 850 miles away. Anyway, they'll take care of you. Tell them Carson sent you. ;)

Crazed 10-03-01 12:18 AM

I've been going to RP since my TII days back in '92. They are great and should be the *ONLY* place you take your car to.

Hey CPA....I bet a million dollars you are talking about Lance at LA Motorcars, huh?

spyfish007 10-03-01 01:25 AM

raise your hand if you bought your car from Lance @ LAMotorcars.

ooohhhh memememememe!!

Tell him you saw me driving around DFW and he'll laugh. Oh even better, tell him you met me (guy with CYM, headlight kit and '99 J-spec spoiler) and tell him I'm selling the car because I keep getting thrown in jail (which I'm not selling the car and I've only been in jail once) but you will get him on this joke -- get him good.

<--- Raising hand

technonovice 10-03-01 09:38 AM

I've never seen nor heard a negative word about them. I've ordered some parts from there and they were top qualilty and they answer my inquiries efficiently.

Crazed 10-03-01 10:11 AM

I have both of my hands up (brought 2 fds from him). If you live in the Dallas area, you pretty much have to buy it from him. He snags them from the autotrader and classifieds before you have a chance to even pick up your phone.

Can't beat having a warranty on a 3rd gen, though.

spyfish007 10-03-01 12:12 PM

You can get him to knock a $1000 off the price if you don't want the warrenty .... which is what I went for. I knew I was going to modify the heck out of the car so I figured I'd say some $$.

CPA 10-03-01 12:34 PM

Yes, I did get my car from Lance at LA Motorcars. He is a good and honest guy. He will tell you upfront what is wrong with any of the cars and even advise you not to buy it. He had me wait a month to get a car I would be happy with instead of selling me something he already had. My car is at Rotary Performance right now getting some new cooling system hoses. They called me back pretty quick and gave me upfront prices. They are good and Chris knows what he is talking about. He can figure out what is wrong with your car before you even bring it in sometimes.

best shop, best team, best people, "two thumbs up". the people there has a lot of knowledge in upgrading and maintaining you RX-7. Mr. Ari Yallon really helped me out choosing an exhaust system for my FD3S. RP #1

jackc 10-04-01 01:17 AM

Nice to hear good things about this company...
I've just ordered some upgrade parts and Ari was quite
helpful at answering my questions. I had quite a few
questions regarding Drag-racing... These guys really know
their stuff.

I wish they were in
Canada...

Bought my Rex from Lance at LA Motorcars as well. Still see him on occasion; a good guy.

Ok guys, bringing this one back to the top. I did another post but none of the people who responded in this thread have responded so far. In this post it came off as if everyone trusted Lance and LA Motorcars and that he was a fair guy. Does anyone know if the $16995 they are asking for the 94 black/tan that they have right now is a good deal? Has anyone had to use the warranty that he includes with the purchase for the engine, turbos, or anything else with comments as to that>? thanks guys, much appreciated.

Problem with all FDs is that they are used cars, so prices are everywhere. Is it "clean"? New motor? Mods? Mileage? Ever wrecked? Rare color? etc, etc.

I can say when I purchased mine from him a year ago that the prices were actually better than privately owned cars I had looked at, and Lance's cars were in better shape to. Again being used cars he may have a bunch of great ones or maybe just a couple that are alright; sometimes you have to wait. He typically has RP clean any mechanical work up before he sells them. As for warranties, you can use his or try and get your own. I am not sure what his current warranty offer is, but be sure that the third gen will always be in the $$$ bracket as far as warranties go.

Lance has always been helpful ever since I purchased the car; a straight guy.

Thank you so much for your reply. I think that I just need to talk to him a little more in depth and get his honest opinion on the car, it sounds like from what you and others have said I can trust his opinion. I know that they are doing a 3 yea/36k mile warranty, he said it is really good but I should ask a few more in depth questions. Is anyone really close to there who would have the time to swing by and take a look at the car for me? Thanks again guys, its much appreciated.

and im out,
Josh

U 2 Ez 11-15-01 05:56 PM

go to www.lamotorcars.com, it's all right there. Anyone else who has opinions on this place and the specific car I mentioned as far as whether or not it is worth it? Thanks guys.

kamikazeRyan 11-15-01 08:14 PM

RP is the only place where I take my car. Every mod I have done has been top quality, and I have not taken my car anywhere besides them. Ari and Chris have great knowledge and know what they are talking about. I would not hestiate to bring my car back to them again. I also highly recommend people with RX7s to stop by and check the place out. You would not be disappointed!!
