? about a front mount
 

ok so im new to the FD's but i am looking at a greddy frount mount.....i was wondering if it would be a good idea to get....my mods on my FD are non seq setup, HKS bov, apexi intakes, greddy boost controller, koyo radiator, aluminum AST....this is what i have been looking at ....

i was looking at getting the same FMIC.... i would say its a good idea to get if you plan on putting more stuff on your FD.

your choice of intercooler usually depends on what kind of driving you want to do.If its a DD or you will be doing autocross a stock mount is usually the choice. For drag racing and high Hp applications its usually front mount. But you will find exceptions . Greddy FMIC's are abit of work to install.I've heard that the Blitz and the Apexi ones are easier and require less hacking to the car.

The Greddy requires a bit of hacking. Many folks remove the bumper re-inforcement for instance. That particular piece can be retained, it just requires a bit of modification, not really too bad.

there have been engine cooling issues reported with front mounts on stock turbos. I don't think i've heard any first hand though.

yeah well its not my daily driver.....i drivfe it every once and awhile......yeah ive searched on the overheating on it....but is it really that bad on overheating with a front mount?

What is the use of your car? What do you plan to use it for in the future? Street driving? drag racing? autox? road racing?

All of the different intercoolers have positives and negatives; you need to know the use of your car to figure out which would be the best approach for you.

its use is just to drive it on weekends and ocassianoly during the week....nothing to crazy.....i plan to do a single turbo upgrade on it in the near future..

I ran the apexi front mount on the stock radiator for two years with no problems. Make sure your fans are operating properly and you may even want to do the fan mod, drilled thermostat, and most importantly a temp gauge. I also hope you forgot to include an ECU upgrade in your list of mods, if not, you DEF need one to run the intercooler safely. Plenty of people run a FMIC on daily drivers with no problems as long as precautions are taken and you monitor your car's temps.

In that case, a FMIC won't be a problem. FMIC's like the Apexi and Blitz have a slightly different design which allow more airflow to the radiator. For a street application, it shouldn't be a problem.

One thing I hated when I upgraded to a FMIC was the lost of boost response. It will take the turbo more time to get to full boost.

I think the "low boost response" was in your mind. If you look at the difference in piping length between the stock mounts and say the Apexi FMIC, the difference is MAYBE 2-4 inches. The apexi intercooler sits almost in the same spot most stock mounts do. I never noticed any such hesitation, and had the PFS stock mount, Pettit stock mount, Greddy FM, and Apex FM, the only thing I did notice is that the stock mounts heatsoaked like a mofo and the front mounts didn't.

:scratch: Are you talking about an FD, because the piping is easily a foot longer on each side of the IC.....

theres like a $500 difference?

Different IC types. The cheap one is a bar & plate design rather than the fin & tube design. The fin & tube design generally has better efficiency and weighs a lot less (hence, more expensive).
