99 wing ???

does the 99 wing for the 3rd gen bolt right up to a stock r1 wing? or does it have to be redrilled?

RTS3GEN 11-16-03 07:30 PM

Fits the same holes, no redrilling required!

i think the two inner holes are not covered by the 99 wing. the stock wing has 4 holes... i believe

What a load of crap....

SEARCH would get you the best answer.

hell no it doesn fit the same. The stock r1/r2 wing has 4 bolts per side and the '99 spec has 2 outer bolts per side and 2 alignment pieces (one plastic and one metal) per side. The outer two holes for the '99 spec wing match the r1/r2 holes but the inner 2 are way off. In fact, if you mount the wing over the r1/r2 holes, one of the holes will still show. Sorry I dont have any pics of mine to go by but I can sure tell you I ran into a lot of hidden costs after buying my '99 spec wing. Installation came out to some big $$$

hidden costs? So what if the car is being repainted, and has no wing and this is applied then...that wouldn't be as difficult would it?

i just put mine on a couple weeks ago and was disappointed to find out it didn't directly bolt up. i had to find 4 new bolts to mount the outer parts with and the inner holes will have to be drilled to be correctly installed. i just removed the mounting equipment temporarily as it's gettin ready to go to the body shop. there are 2 holes from the forward, inner mounting spot that will still show

The hidden costs i was talking about was basically the expense of welding and smoothing the old holes and then painting the spoiler and matching/blending it to the body.
If you are repainting your car and it previously had no wing, the only expense I can see you running into would be the difficulty mounting it which is not that hard. You sound better off than most.

I'm pretty sure the holes are different.

smg944 11-17-03 08:11 PM

so the 2 outer holes match up. does the 99 wing require any more drilling? or do the other holes just need to be covered? looking to go a full 99 kit but dont want to kill my account.

get the racing Beat type 2 wing. It looks like it covers the entire rear deck, but the wing looks like a more aggresive 99+ spoiler.

you will have to re-drill the holes for the center two mounting spots. one is a stud and the other is just one of those body pop pin things, that just holds it in there, so that hole will have to be pretty exact. as for the racing beat wing, it's not adjustable, which may not be a huge concern, but i paid a lot of money for that adjustability!
