Finally got it in today and put it together! This thing literally took me 15 minutes to unwrap, it was wrapped really really well.

I also got my Peter Farrell exhaust put on today. Got to the shop and said they were closing in a hour, 35 minutes and $3.50 later we had the exhaust on and we were outa there.

MazdaSpeedDan 02-04-12 10:25 PM

Well one time I went to the beach and I got some ice cream and some beer, and I drank all the beer and I ate all my ice cream, then I went back to my hotel room and went to sleep.

cloudz 02-05-12 02:46 AM

Got it painted but decided I wanted to leave the center flat black so I left it as it is as well as the caps on the sides. Going to test fit it in a bit after my buddy gets back.

nice car the wing is cool

ALPSTA 02-06-12 02:39 AM

Looks good but is it me or does the rear of the centre piece have a downward slope?

Mrmatt3465 02-06-12 03:48 AM

The spoiler is adjustable. He has it set kind of neutral right now is what it looks like.

OEM is adjustable, VIS racing replica isn't. I don't know what brand his spoiler is or if it is adjustable but in neutral position it should be flat, 0 angle. Like I said maybe it is just me or the photography, maybe it is flat.....

MazdaSpeedDan 02-06-12 09:37 AM

The spoiler is 4 way adjustable. If I take it down a knotch or 2 it would be flat.

rx7rcer09 02-06-12 10:19 AM

3m twill weave the center section it would look great.

Negative, the VIS replica is adjustable, I know because I have one.

The difference is the VIS is only adjustable for 2 settings, one flat, one angled.

The OP's spoiler seems to be OEM since I doubt any replica would have that many adjustments.

On the other hand, one can easily just drill more holes into the spoiler to make it more adjustable.

Here is a pic showing the 4 ways you can adjust it.

mkiv98 02-06-12 01:55 PM

wow you're like my identical twin on the east coast. I also have a red FD with the same black plugs in the hatch for the holes.

I also have a spoiler painted like yours (badly) that I need to get repainted and then I can mount it. I am super super picky with paint and it looks like yours needs a serious wet sanding.

tangoshark 02-06-12 02:18 PM

How much is the oem wing and how much for the replica? Same quality?

MazdaSpeedDan 02-06-12 02:36 PM

Post some pics up of yours

MazdaSpeedDan 02-06-12 02:37 PM

OEM I believe retails for $1,000. Where as the replica is less than half of that. The quality is good but its not the best that I have ever seen.

potatochobit 02-06-12 03:27 PM

nice
I personally dont like the bit of black, but it works with the wheels

I stand corrected. I have a VIS spoiler on order and I have read in VIS group buy thread about lack of adjustment, obviously it was 2 on replica vs. 4 on oem.

MazdaSpeedDan I agree with rx7rcer09, if you wrap the centre piece in 3M-Dinoc CF it'll look better than flat black imo.

mr2dude9161 02-07-12 01:40 AM

You can order a oem spoiler from overseas from a factory rx7. These will run for around 550 shipped and probably need painting or fiberglass work.

I have a replica that is also adjustable and either the person didn't know what the hell they were doing but the main rear hole could not be used for all of the 4 positions available. Also the side pieces fit very bad and I had to use bondo to fix it. I am very picky about the parts that go on my rx7 and if anyone gives me $300 for my wing I would sell it in a heart beat. I bought it for that price.

Throw_Some_Twins_On_It 02-07-12 08:55 AM

Crazy thought, no offense intended but is it possible to have the center cention in backwards? It seems the front of your spoiler has a blunt face whereas the rear comes to a point....wouldnt you want the pointed flat edge on the front to help cut the wind for downforce instead of creating drag?

Just a thought. Anyways, im interested in a 99spec wing

LoneStarS30Z 02-07-12 10:06 PM

Please color match the end cap thingies. Otherwise, looks great!

wat?

i would like to image that the design of this wing is somewhat similar to an actual airplane wing where air pressure is higher on one side then the other creating lift/down force.

Also, i don't think you can create down force without some sort of drag..

not a physicist though... only a biologist haha..

I am a mechanical engineer. The downforce the spoiler creates is the same principal as the lift airplane wings create, only in the opposite direction. So the spoiler shape will somewhat look like an airplane wing (air foil) but inverted. The flat surface on the bottom of the airplane wing creates faster air speed at the surface which creates more pressure than the top of the wing, therefore, u get a net force acting upwards creating lift. The slower air speed on top of the air plane wing is created by the rounder shape on the front and top of the wing (thus round shape in front facing air flow) and after air flow seperate from both sides of the wing u want the air flow to come together, otherwise plane will stall. The is the reason the back side of the wing is pointer than front. Giving a spoiler is just like the wing but upside down, the side that facing air flow does not change.

So the short answer is, ur spoiler installed correctly.

Throw_Some_Twins_On_It 02-08-12 10:14 AM

Ok, lol...i stand corrected

95WhitePEP 02-10-12 01:11 AM

Actually like the two toned look.....

turbojeff 02-10-12 09:06 AM

On an airplane wing the curved surface on the top creates a longer path for the air to travel, to cover the longer distance the air must travel faster creating lower pressure on top of the wing. Lower pressure on the top of the wing creates lift to pull the plane up.

zanthrax 02-10-12 04:49 PM

The paint needs a clearcoat and a polish. It looks spraypainted.

Firbirdgta 02-11-12 10:31 AM

I agree that the two tone looks good.

chrxx 10-02-21 05:13 AM

old thread bump lol, but thanks to this thread. I think i'm gonna pic up a VIS 99 spec rep wing cause of it.

Cheers

ptrhahn 10-04-21 11:39 AM

I've never preferred the black/CF bolt covers, but I definitely think the blade looks better in a satin black/CF. Should have come like that from the factory.

One diff between OEM and replica may be, the OEM has metal supports inside the FG mounts, so its pretty strong and can take loading. Not sure if replicas do.
