99 spec "aggressiveness"

I have a plateless 99spec bumper laying around and ive been debating putting it on. the only thing is im not sure if its the direction im looking for... i would like a rear diffuser (car craft style) for those who dont know its like the re one but the main difference is the center is vastly wider. im unsure of the spoiler i want to go with since im not too fond of wingless (on the fence)

Do you guys consider the 99 spec to be aggressive? im interested in your guys input on 99 spec combinations.. what do you think works well and doesnt work well with the front bumper?

IF i do the 99 spec im planning on going with the oem side skirts with the feed under them, a custom rear diffuser, and probably the apr gtc spoiler

do you guys think it goes well with non stock fenders?

Supernaut 02-22-11 06:34 PM

I don't consider a shaved 99 spec fender aggressive at all. The 99 spec fender is pretty tame and understated. Thats why I like it anyway.

Which non-stock fenders?

Montego 02-22-11 06:49 PM

nope not agressive at all. Just like Supernaut that is also why I like it.

evot23 02-22-11 07:00 PM

99 spec bumper is pretty tame in my opinion and with oem 99 sides, feed skirts, gtr bumper it'll look clean and not overly done. I think the feed skirts are becoming the norm in most FDs.

muibubbles 02-22-11 07:13 PM

but do you think a big spoiler and rear diffuser are too aggressive to go with the front end?

lol andy why are you saying fender you noooob =p

i have panspeed but i was thinking more the lines of like the burnout fenders

RLaoFD 02-22-11 07:27 PM

IMO a big spoiler is too aggressive for the 99 spec front end.

I do have a rear diffuser w/ my setup though along with a ducktail spoiler, both of which are from shine. oh and I also have the feed replica sides.

so I'm a little biased towards everything else you have planned

evot23 02-22-11 07:27 PM

I don't think so...the wing isn't so crazy aggressive IMO that it distracts the overall look of the car and the 99 spec bumper.

$lacker 02-22-11 08:05 PM

Trade you for a Knight Sports front bumper? lol

zeroG 02-22-11 09:09 PM

I've seen some aftermarket lips for the 99 bumpers that make it look a good bit more aggressive and still a clean look.

93rx74lyfe 02-22-11 09:43 PM

Its more of an elegant upgrade to bring the looks into the 21st century. Never been a fan of the ones without the plate, makes it look a bit like a fish.

Polak Graphics 02-22-11 10:20 PM

Yea, not a fan of the plateless at all.

And i dont think 99 spec is gonna work for u. Its a very tame look.

SiH 02-23-11 02:33 AM

Beautiful, yes, aggressive, no :(
IMO how you make the car sit on a 99 spec is all about the way the rest of the car sits.

99 spec front bumper and lip on it's own looks grand, but the lip makes the car look out of balanced, almost raked. Satin black the lip, apply feed type skirts, and a small rear diffuser, then set it off with some pokeyw heel fitment, and it sits subtly aggressively.
I'm currently trying to decide whether to keep my subtle MazdaSpeed rear diffuser, or go with something like a Sanai or Re:A. I like how they look, but tbh I think they're going to be too OTT for the rest, and ruin the lines.

Persoanlly, if I were to try and head for the mildly lairy, but still slightly OEM look, I'd go:
99 Spec front
AutoExe front lip
Mazda option side skirts
Feed style side steps underneath skirts
Re:A rear diffuser with vortex generators.
Small rear lip spoiler like the Shine
Aggressive fitment split rims, with reasonable dish, but in a dark colour, like a satin black all over.

I reckon that would pull it off.

MR_Rick 02-23-11 05:21 AM

IMO THe GT-C bumper is what you need.

93rx74lyfe 02-23-11 12:09 PM

Ahh didn't think about that but it does sound like a good option just make sure you run the sides also, the bumper on its own hangs way lower than another piece on the car.

Not agressive at all. Kind of like fitment with this lip as it gives more muscular look.

kalinakona 02-23-11 06:02 PM

It just looks way too happy for me to consider it aggressive. I guess I just don't like the whole smiling effect.

Looks like they ran into an exposed man hole cover or somethin, lol.

ohh i love the uras? lip.....

MR_Rick 02-24-11 10:41 AM

The problem with making an FD look aggressive is that the car already look aggressive with OEM styling, we are just used to the look. The 99 spec just ups it one notch further. SO if you want to change the aggressiveness, you have to change the look of the car.

KKMpunkrock2011 02-24-11 10:42 AM

I love my buddy's car, similar to that red one posted above, only real difference is the lack of the rear splash guards and the color

I'll agree, its not THAT agressive, but with the right combination it can look great.

edit: I'm also torn on the plateless look or not.

ptrhahn 02-24-11 12:55 PM

I think the 99 front is aggressive enough for most rear end treatments, up to and including GT wings if the rest of the car (wheels etc) fit the part.

I guess I've said before, I don't know how anyone can like the plated version of it though. It's so obviously not an integral part of the design, and is tacked on after. I also can't understand how anyone thinks it "prevents" the car from doing anything like "smiling" or grinning, or anything else. It doesn't change anything with the rest of the shape of the car.

Supernaut 02-24-11 01:21 PM

I think without the plate holder, the front bumper looks to smiley.

Finster 02-25-11 12:00 AM

If you are concerned with an overall "look" (as you should be) my opinion is to go more "total" aftermarket and get a different bumper.
99 spec bumper + 99spec wing= winner
93-95 bumper +wing or no wing = winner
all aftermarket may be a winner if it has a total package look

the dark gray 99 spec shown in previous post is a good example of taking a total package and tweaking it a bit. It has 99 bumper/wing +modest sidekirts and the non-outlandish diffuser sets it off and gives a touch of aggression.
I wouldnt have smoked the turns but it still looks right as a package.

Using 99spec front and then going totally different towards the rear... i dont know id have to see it

The opening is the same shape with or without the plate. It's literally impossible for it to be less smiley unless you're simply distracted looking at the plate.

Finster 02-25-11 12:14 AM

I notice a difference too between plateless aftermarket and ones that have been hacked using a 93-95 donor.
The hacked ones look better imo because the aftermarket ones seem to have a slanted nose which makes the distance from emblem to the mouth look really long.
whereas the hacked ones get the donated 93 rounded nose.

Aggressiveness on the stock body is all about the wheel fitment IMHO. Therefore it's a dangerous game to play if you don't want most of RX7club to rag on your car :D

99spec_fd 02-25-11 02:51 AM

without the lip i think it resembles an rx8
