95 A/C condensor unit larger than previous models?
 

I'm curious if the condensor is better for the 95 or later models.

R12 is expensive and R134a doesn't cool as much.

I'm just going to take a stab here because I don't know for sure, but I've never heard anywhere they there is a difference. I back that hypothesis up by my Blitz intercooler kit, which had no provisions for different sizes or designs of AC condensors, even though it had new sets of brackets for it and a larger or much thicker AC condesor likely wouldn't have fit in the new place.

Someone wrote on another thread that there are more fins on the '95 condenser and that another change (I forget what it was) was made to the '95 system besides the different refrigerant. I have a '95 and it cools fine, even on a super-hot day like today. My guess is that some change was made to the system to compensate for the 134a which absorbs heat slightly less efficiently than R12.

I've also don't have a sight guage on my drier, whereas the earlier cars do, so that's another change.

I forgot which year mandated 134a in the States.

I'm in the middle of putting back the AC into the FD.

Yes, I'm running 134a. It's the system that came with the '95 cars. 93's and 94's had R-12.


We had a thread on this subject just a few days ago. Someone who converted their R12 system to 134a was dissatisfied with the cooling of their A/C. My personal opinion is if you have R12, I would stick with it. R12 is still available, although it has become more expensive.

So, if my 94 had the AC port installed, couldn't I buy the 95 port AC parts and install it instead?

I would need the condensor, evaporator, and dryer?
Would the 94 compressor work or do I need the 95?
