Get a boost gauge. With a DP & Y-pipe, you are probably boosting near 12 psi (bad). You probably need a boost controller too.

Don't mess with the vacuum lines unless you have a problem.

what are the recalls on a 94; how do we find out if it has been performed and is it free if it hasnt been done yet?

robrxray 12-17-06 11:12 PM

3 recalls on 94, go to 3rd gen archive n look in rob robinette thread
explains all. some models have them, some according to manufacture date aren't necessary[mazda qoute] but there is an 800 mazda number you call and they can tell you if issues were resolved. also, i think when they do them, they mark it on door or rocker with a sticker. one is a fuel line recall, 2nd brake vacuum line or something, and 3rd is a waterpump/thermostat gasket. i will post info later if time allows. i beleive the recalls are free still. also there are about 6-700 dollars or so in reliabilty mods that should be done asap when you get car[i.e] ast, etc.

ultmtrx8 12-17-06 11:52 PM

good luck with it. post pics asap

Congradulations on getting the FD. FDs are the nearest thing to a sportbike on four wheels but a new owner's course on their care and feeding should be mandatory. Looks like you've done your research. It does look like you could use a set of new wheels. Please let me know where things are at regarding the Fittapaldis when you have time . I hope everything works out OK with the family crisis . Dennis Wilkison

One more that gets missed - some later versions had an EGR valve recall - caused a funny idle and cold start issues. Look around the engine bay and door frane for blue and white rectangular stickers - as some Mazda dealers put these stickers on to note that the recall program was done. These are kind of crytic messages but useful details on the car history. IMhO the most critical is the vacuum line as it is alleged to have caused engine fires - not sure I believed it but that is what I was told.

RX7LINK 12-18-06 07:33 PM

congrats on the FD

i think u also missed

- upgrade to aftermarket radiator
- new sparkplugs

~ Enjoy ur new ride!

robrxray 12-18-06 08:53 PM

egr has been changed , recall stickers on door and at mazdausa.com verified

set of brand new platinum plugs ngk waiting for daylight[wires next]
radiator is on list

how soon do i need a stand alone?

Dennis I will be in contact this week, thanx again for responses

the reason the rims look like that is we live on the beach basically here at kennedy space center, where car has been for a few years, easily resolved, no rust anywhere else.
