Are 93MT vs 94MT Drivetrain Parts the same?
 

Hi all,

I will be converting my 94 Auto to Manual transmission with parts from my 93 5spd soon.
This thread will cover drivetrain components (nothing electrical).
With me being a bit OCD I would like your help to verify if there are any differences between 93MT and 94MT drive train components, I would like to keep my car as "94" as possible if that makes any sense. :lol:

The following components I am talking about are:

Axles
Differential
Driveshaft
PPF (I know there were slight differences between 93 and 94 year)
Clutch Pedal
Clutch Master
Clutch Slave
Brake Pedal
Brake Booster
Brake Master

and anything of that sort.

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

There are no substantial differences. I know that stock the 93's had a weak clutch that Mazda revised I think late in the '93's run, but I'm sure you're not going to use a stock used clutch :).

The rear subframe was revised and upgraded in '94 but that should be the same auto/manual so you aren't swapping or doing anything with that.

The booster and master are pretty much the same as far as I know but the reservoir on the brake master for the manual trans has a nipple to feed fluid to the clutch master. I'm not sure if the auto cars have that nipple and it's capped off or if you need a new reservoir.

I think the only substantial difference would be the wiring - the '94s have some differences in the dash harness for the passenger air bag.

The clutch fork that was upgraded in '94. Running an aftermarket pressure plate tended to brake the 93 forks

Dale, yes you are correct on the autos having a capped nipple on the brake fluid reservoir.

Any other input would be greatly appreciated!

I believe the early 93's had a weak 5th synchro. A stronger one, along with a shift-select spindle with a stronger spring to prevent going to 5th by accident was the fix.

^That's a good point. It's not hard to open the back end of the transmission and investigate the synchro while the trans is out of the car. Well worth spending the time to do before moving forward with the install.
