93 Transmission install
 
Hello, I recently took out my transmission, and had it rebuilt. I just got the tranny back today, but I can't seem to get the input shaft all the way in. It lines up with the splines on the clutch. But about a half inch of it won't go in.

Anyone else ever have this problem or know how to fix it?

im having the same problem does anybody know what i am doing wrong? Also is the flywheel in the bellhousing supposed to be completely consealed?

Often times when you are reinstalling the tranny, the splines on the transmission input shaft do not line up EXACTLY with the clutch disc. This causes the tranny not to go all the way in and is frustrating. I usually have to jiggle the tail shaft some or pound on the tailshaft with large dead blow hammer to get the shaft to line up. Also, it helps a little if you lube the input shaft with antiseize compound to help the next time you need to get 'er outta there. Also, try pushing up and down on the tail shaft of the tranny to aid in lining the assemblies up, but be careful not to jam or bang around too much, you don' t want to crush the pilot bearing or strip a roller bearing out of the race inside the e-shaft. Good luck. As for Turbo F1, once you get the whole assembly aligned and the bolts in place, you should not see the flywheel or the clutch, it will all be concealed inside the bell housing once all the bolts to the engine are tightened.

All six bolts are in, but I can still feel the flywheel if i feel around the bell housing(not the starter hole). Also how do you get the pressure plate close enough to bolt to the flywheel. Am i suppose to remove the PP and Clutch then bolt it to the flywheel. Or just try to get the to aline.....

If you can still feel the flywheel around the bellhousing(meaning you have a gap between the bellhousing and the motor) then the transmission is not all the way on.

Did you snap the pressure plate on the transmission before you installed the transmission? If so then you won't be able to bolt the pp to the flywheel until the transmission is all the way on.

I always usually bolt the pressure plate to the flywheel first and then slip the transmission on. I always have a problem getting the transmission to go on and it usually requires lots of wiggling to get it on.

Probably what happened was the clutch got slightly jarred out of alignment when the tranny was removed. Since you have it in most of the way, it just sounds like the input shaft of the tranny just hasnt engaged into the pilot bearing yet.

Trick is to to have someone press the clutch in while you jiggle the tranny around. That will give a little free play for the shaft to seat into the bearing.

Other option is to take the pressure plate off and realign the cluctch plate with a clutch alignment tool.

Yeah guys i got it. I did what black99 said and got in place. Thanks for all your help. well here is another question, i removed my smog pump(air pump same thing right). well now i need to find a belt that fits right. I tried the 315k5 and 32k5 it seems either too small or too large even width adjusting the alternator.
