I was thinking maybe it could be the throttle sensor??

Have you adjusted this at all, or done anything to your IM.

Intake leak or idle adjustment.

Most likely an intake leak. Simple fix, remove turbos, upper and lower intake, replace $11 gasket...

well im a mechanical
moron :)

so this might be a problem for me
to take stuff apart.

dont trust myself to do it right.

you think thats the problem?

how long would the fix take?

thanks!

If you're a mechanical moron, do not buy an FD, unless you have access to a good shop that is familiar with them.

1.
there is a good shop 50 miles from here

2. i had a 93 RX7 a year ago so i know what im
getting myself into

Uhm.... The seller might be hiding the fact that the motor is blown, since the Idle would be lumpy, irratic, and Low... with a blown seal...
By turning up the idle, you can try to mask some of that stuff... the thing is most people like yourself will start to ask why !?

I'm not saying it is blown, but it sounds suspect, since it's a fairly simple adjustment on the Throttle Body...

Stock ECU right?

Sure it really stays at 2500+ and never drops? Like for over 5 or 10 minutes? The AWS(Automatic Warm up System) keeps the idle at around that when the car is first started, but afer a little bit the idle should settle down to 750-1000. Try starting the car in first gear or tapping the gas once or twice to see if you can get it to settle down. If you drive the car around for a little bit and the idle stays at 2k+ then start looking into leaks or throttle adjustments.

like stated above be very careful. a higher idle could be the seller hiding a blown motor.

i think it stays up
all the time....

what are the options on fixing
that i should look for

thanks

first start to unplug everything one at a time whcih has to do with idle control

dashpot
ISC
AWS
Wax rod assembly
fast idle screw
airpump solenoid

if this does not solve it, you have a leak some place in your intake system. get a can of starter fluid and a fire extinguisher ready just in case and then spray a bit on each joint (like all the intercooler pipes, tb to uim, uim to lim, lim to block, near the fuel injectors, places like that), and if the idle changes, there is your leak.

good luck

P.S. im assuming you already tried to adjust the idle setscrew on the throttle body, there are 2 :)

I doubt the High Idle is a cover for a blown motor.

If the motor is blown its blown, its not gonna IDLE
nor RUN to say the least.. a blown motor is so obvious
I don't think anything will HIDE it.. Just get in and hit
the gas ,or drive it..

20-1, its the IDLE screw need to be adjusted.
If the locking nuts aren't locked tight enough
and can loosen and then idle screw start moving
and messing with your idle..

the IDLE screw is on the right side infront/underneath
upper intake manifold. Looking at your car from the front.

GOOD luck

Oh yea, does it bounce fvrom 2k-2.5 rpms??
ask if its a stock ECU?? or if its a RE amemiya
aftermarket ECU?? I had a problem with IDLE
bouncing from from 1500-2500 rpms when ever
the fans came on..

Guys,

I had this EXACT problem with a friend of mine's car about two months ago. His car would not idle lower than 2000 rpm and sat near 2500. Come to find out that the throttle linkage was binding on the front of the throttle body. Just try grabbing the TB linkage where the cable mounts to the TB and turn it clockwise to make sure it's in the fully extended position (i.e., low idle) and not binding or hanging up. My buddie's linkage was binding. A little twist and VOILA, normal idle again.

If there is a good one nearby, tell the current owner you want to get it checked by a mechanic and take it over there and let them have a look, possibly free and you wont have to get dirty.
